I played a Domination match yesterday and experienced one hell of a glitch.
I could move normally, fire and reload my weapon, and use equipment. However, all players disappeared aside from their moving chevrons, my equipment never deployed where I had set them, and I was practically invisible to everyone else. Experiencing something like this before, I thought to myself, "Hey, this seems similar to that other glitch, but I'm not moving at 100x the speed." So, I took advantage of it and ran straight for the enemy redline.
The match was in Ashland and the enemy redline and MCC were on the right side of the map. I ran over the hill where snipers usually camp and proceeded on my way to cross two more giant ass hills. I kept running/walking until I came across a road that seemed to lead to two distant towers in the horizon so I spent several minutes following its path.
This went on for minutes and the towers actually seemed like an attainable destination but after several tacnet session expiration warnings, I decided to commit suicide and get back to helping my squad in fear of being kicked from the match.
CCP... How big are your maps, and considering that areas beyond the redline are accessible, why can't we fight in these places? Ashland always seemed small to me, but after given the chance to run freely in an otherwise inaccessible area, I now realize that it's freakin' huge. Are all other maps built this way as well? Are there any invisible walls that would have prevented me from going further? |

One day, I'd like for there to be battle under the "Special Contracts" tab that doesn't have a redline or MCC, so we can just derp around in DSs trying to discover how big the maps are.

It'd be funny if somehow all maps were interconnected. We could start off in Spine Crescent, fly east, and somehow end up in Line Harvest. |

I did this exact same thing once. Which, convinced me that 90% of the lag is due to the servers constantly processing all of that unnecessary terrain.

Maps are interconnected. If you play on the huge ass five point match, Domination, look out over the objective and you can see the Gallente Research Facility.

I'm pretty sure that the lag is from the 200+ equipment on the field. |

250 mb , latency never above 5 ms even on wireless connection ( that I've seen, gonna get google fiber soon.. 1 gb connection ) and I get lag at the beginning of rounds, even with no friendly vehicals being called in.
But they could do away with friendly equipment noise.... We can see it on the map.

As an experiment I will spam every peice of equipment possible in one giant pile to see if it does anything. I'll have to score some factional point so I can buy it all from basic to proto of every type. Might be able to put out 200 pieces myself including re's proxy's, I'll count em up, It will be a sight for sure.

Our maps are among of the largest seen on the ps3 in terms of shooters. BF's would likely be the next closest rival but we seemingly don't have a means of unloading unseen portions of the map and it seems always to be loaded; This is where probably most of our memory is getting eaten. 25km^2 was the stated size and most of our fights are carved out of these maps. One map had up to 5 cutouts. (plataus) while the other (craters) has only 3 cutouts so far.

I am betting it probably has more to do with legion or rather more resources going to legion. |

I also discovered that all player models are apparently always rendered, irregardless of whether they are obstructed. I figured this out when the PS3 had unloaded a building while I was temporarily dead. When I got better I got to see an enemy player through that building. Either the visibility checks are based on the final geometry (which hadn't been loaded yet) instead of hierarchical geometry or the PS3 always has to render all players within the FOV.
(BTW, when disconnecting from a server you can see that all 31 player positions are relayed to your client at all times, even when they aren't in view. A simple waste of resources.) |
