people in suits out to make money, people from ea etc do not make good gaming decisions they only make "business" decisions. If the upper management is really so clueless and is blindfolding talented people on the ground then they need to be replaced.
Take Firaxis games and Sid Meier for example, the team is headed up by the guy who made the dam games in the first place, civ: beyond earth looks like a dream come true for the development team when you hear them talking about their vision.
Now that's a project going in the right direction, to run a game development company it needs to be for the gamers BY the gamers!
need I mention grey goo as well, that's a gamers fantasy/reality right there.

The recent x-com games were a dream from firaxis. A guy in the company saw that the new 50's era xcom would be crap so begged the company to acquire the rights, conjured up a team and made them actually play the originals to completion then went about designing the game. The end result was amazing.
