Eve has a well developed UI.
Will Legion piggyback of any of Eve's code?
Mainly I can imagine a lot of time saved if Legion leverages Eve's progress with Show Info and window management.
Chat interfaces could be shared too.
Eve's market isn't phenomenal but since they'll eventually be sharing the same economy it'd make sense to have the same interface.
I'm sure there are other places that UI and code could be shared.
Obviously the in game/in space interfaces will be completely different.
I guess this would introduce certain organisational complexities at first in order to share the code but it could be worth it in the long run. You'd get to piggyback of each others improvements and you'd get some uniformity of appearance and behaviour across the games. |

I don't think it's as simple as simply ctrl+c and ctrl+v as the two games will likely have pretty different back ends - but stuff like the fitting screens should have a similar feel to them. |

I'd think that in the case of the UI graphics and functionality, the back-end won't actually affect the situation much and it would just be largely a case of copying stuff over. It'd be great to see a similar theme, I've always been a fan of the look and feel of the Eve menus for the most part.
And yeh about the fitting screen - always been a fan of that on Eve and I always thought the Dust version didn't feel as nice. |

I think this would be a clever move, tying in both games more tightly + saving a lot of time. The faster we get Legion, the better imo
The answer to your complaint is PvE. Always.

Agreed.
Eve Online is operating under a completely different engine altogether from that of DUST or Legion. So copying and pasting the UI code is not easy.

Obviously in game engines are different (Unreal and whatever Eve uses) but while in the Merc's quarters it doesn't have to be a different engine and, if it's worthwhile, there is probably still time to tweak. It'd be cool if Legion used the Carbon engine for characters in the Merc quarters.
And it should not be copying and pasting. If the devs decide the Eve code is worth stealing and the logistics involved worthwhile then they should be using the exact same code as the Eve devs. That way when a bug is fixed or an improvement is made then it just magically filters through to both games thanks to the magic of repositories.
Many reason to do it (reduced work load, uniformity, head start) and many reasons not to do it (logistics, incompatible engines, already implemented alternatives). I'm just curious as to whether it's been considered and why they've made any decisions. |
