I'm not sure if this would even be worth considering by CCP Rattati and crew, and I'm not sure if this could be done server side through a hotfix or if it would require an update, but here is my idea.
Currently, dropsuits within a racial niche branch have many stats in common among all the different tiers, such as base armor/shields, stamina sprinting speed, scanning profiles, etc. And a few things that make the suits stand out as being better the higher tier they get, such as module slots, and cpu/pg. I personally do not believe this is the correct method of advancement that should distinguish a lower tier dropsuit from a higher tier dropsuit in the same family.
Factors which should remain the same between dropsuit teirs should instead be: module and equipment slots base armor, shields stamina, movement/running speed melee damage
Idealy the factors which I think should actually change based on tier should be: shield recharge rate and delay armor repair rate stamina recovery rate cpu/pg scan radius/profile/precision
However, if module and equipment slots were no longer based on tier, I would be happy with just CPU/PG being the ONLY factor that changes based on dropsuit tier.
I seriously think that standard suits should be different from proto suits based on the quality of the modules equipped to them, not the quality and quantity of modules, otherwise instead of a linear progress in performance you get an exponential increase in performance. Granted with only 3 tiers the exponential curve hasnt hit a critical mass or anything.
All of the other factors I listed as changing with teir seem more like soft-system changes to the suit that could be increased in marginal values, certainly not values as high as even the basic/militla modules which also increase these numbers, but something small enough to make a difference without being as powerful as basically getting a free module.
An example of my idea used on some of the gallente assault suit stats would be.
G-1 Armor repair 2hp/s ... scan 10m ... 20 shield/s ... delay 7s G/1 Armor repair 2.5hp/s ... scan 11m ... 21 shield/s ... delay 6.9s Gk.0 Armor repair 3hp/s ... scan 12m ... 22 shield/s ... delay 6.8s
Proto should be better than standard, I just feel like standard deserve the ability to customize using the same # of modules as proto, just not having enough cpu/pg to use as many high quality modules. And while the dropsuits between tiers are physically very similar, i think there should be some small improvements in the electronic systems of the higher tier dropsuits other than the cpu/pg to help give a little extra edge.
