Lol since when do you vet players like competition? i cant even count the amount of times Ive been on a team full of new players, and we get redlined by a proto squad of players from the Teamplayers corp. Calling in orbitals behind the redline and all.
If anything, there has been more balanced games since alot of these vets who made this game their entire life have left. Instead of it just being squads of PC funded protostompers, now you sometimes get games where its mostly casuals instead of tryhards.
For most of my time in Dust though, this has been the result of most games: ]Image
So I kind of hope that alot of these vet players who feel the need to get in squads and proto stomp milita fits decide to not go to legion. Hopefully they take their game breaking ways to another game. All im saying is if they let a playerbase develop, Dust might have been profitable, and the situation today would be different. If these veterans players were an asset instead of a burden, CCP would be trying to keep them instead of opening the door and saying good bye. |

Next match the dice rolls and maybe they get to square off against an actual team like they intended to fight in the first place.
No, new players and casual players are definitely the targets. The example i gave you, the image, that 6 man corp proto squad could have decided to run more low level stuff. They still would have won. Instead they rolled out 6 tanks and called orbitals in our red line everytime we tried to call something. The OPs crop has done the same, many of these vet crops have done the same.
Losing by a little and losing by alot makes a big difference. Everyone enjoys a close game, even the loser. This game was a complete wipeout from the start. Halfway through most of my team were chilling in the MCC, because their vehicles were destroyed by red line orbitals, or by proto tanks camping our red line. And if they set out on foot the Thales watching our red line got them.
Its one thing to say "well its bad matchmaking i dont mean to win all the time". Its quite another to take advantage of that bad matchmaking and unload everything you got at a bunch of new players just for the sake of stat building or e peen worship.
The irony of the whole situation is that vet players did matches like this for a long time, and now that they broke the game they are the first ones to abandon ship. And they blame everyone but themselves. |

it's just not enjoyable if you need to hold back to make it "fair".
I got to face a well organized squad last night for the first time in a month, they beat my ass red till I got adjusted, was quite enjoyable and reminded why I like dust, those games and those days are rare.
Well you have to understand, you actually need a playerbase to compete against in order to have a competitive game. The vets plundered the nascent playerbase before it reached a self sustainability level.
Also, theres FW and PC. Why does competition of the "best" scale have to take place in Public matches vs inexperienced players?
Heres the thing, if you "held back" for awhile and let new players get hooked and put down some roots, you would have great competition after awhile. We wouldnt be in this situation today. If Dust was a money maker instead of a money loser, it wouldnt be getting scrapped right now.
Dust is one of the most downloaded PS3 games and yet, has one of the lowest player populations of any F2P FPS ive ever seen. Blame who you want, make as many excuses as you want, but at the end of the day the vets didnt help the situation one bit. |

let's call these "new" players what they really are "bad players" because I don't think dust actually has any real new players, by this point I see the same players getting proto stomped and have been getting proto stomped for the last year.
Not everyone progresses on a linear skill path. Some will take longer to get to the same place. You are thinking this game to be more along the lines of a Arena shooter when really its supposed to be a MMOFPS. in a MMO, you are supposed to have people of all varieties of skill and abilities because there are alot of jobs to get done.
These "bad players" might be bad at slaying, but they might have skills in other areas of a MMO, like commerce or politics, that you might be "bad" at. Chasing them away before the game is fully developed is harmful imo. |

do you really consider dust to be an mmofps ^^;;
it's not, you know that right?
That was the original vision. Is this your first FPS or first FPS that you are good at? |

And a large population of vets have jobs (yes jobs) and didn't play every hour of the day. It was hard as he'll for me to cap out every week. CCP has giving plenty of opprotunities for new players to get into proto gear. But the devs can't hold your hand while spec'ing. For Christ sake spec one weapon one suit and your cores and with 12+ mil you to can proto stomp. And before you say "well you made all your isk in PC" bullsh!t. I was always on the boarder line of broke. Untill era started paying large contracts. And I had to earn a spot it wasn't handed to me. I'm happy for the new players finally getting some work done but **** had you used your heads to begin with you wouldn't be QQ about getting redlined by 1 proto squad.
Dont pretend you dont know what im talking about. Be honest here, how many times has one of our corp mates dropped a orbital behind someones red line in a game where you had the enemy red lined? Not every vet is a jerk and not every jerk is a vet, but your corp, Team players, stands out as having been a particular nasty bunch in some games that don't stop until everyone is hiding in the MCC. (Then they come onto the forums and demand a solution to MCC campers.)
It just raised some eyebrows seeing someone from Team Players Dirt Nap Squad lamenting about competitiveness, when in reality, that corp and alliance have been in favor of anything but.

Then i would say "I would like to see that". I dont mind losing, i really dont. Its just a matter of how bad the loss is. If I lose but it was a fairly close game, i still have fun. Why? Cause the entire time I felt like victory was possible and i never gave up. Now If I lose, and it was an absolute slaughter, then no i didnt have fun, because if I never had a chance, then the match was pointless.
Be honest, when you fight a guy 1vs1, and almost kill him, its almost more fun than when you fight him and barely melt away 1/4th of his shields. When that happens youre just like "wtf he soaked up 10 AR rounds and barely anything, i took 4 shots and im dead".
if more vets ran STD/ADV, alot more matches/fights would be closer and things would be more fun, even if they still won most of the time. But many vets are too proud to operate with a smaller margin of error. They cant bear the idea of maybe dying in a video game. |

I don't think you understand what the competition is in redlined matches; I know when I'm doing the redlining in a full squad (proto or otherwise) at the end of the match the e-peen wagging isn't about the fact that we beat a team of randoms, but that I got more kills than you doing it.
Competition =/= with the other team.
Is this your first FPS, or first FPS that you are good at? You seem awfully proud of that pile of passive SP you are standing on.
Leeroy Gannarsein wrote: Why should vets operate with a smaller margin of error?
If I were using a Gallente Frontline suit (my main is Gal Q.Q) I'd stack it with proto modules. I'd still have 7-800 EHP. Why? Because I've invested the SP. Because I can.
Why would I gimp my fittings so you can feel good about yourself?
Did you read the whole thread or just my latest reply? I feel like you are missing an whole lot of context in your reply to me.
I suggest you go back, read the entire conversation, and then decide if that's what you really wanted to say.
