It currently looks like there is going to be a move away from the concept of being in your Mercs quarters in between each match... Is this the case or was the hanger scene that was showing when rouge said 'this is your quarters' just a placeholder - it didn't look like my quarters at all lol.
However i have an idea here that may replace the merc quarters as it currently exists in dust and integrates some ideas that existed when dust was first demos in 2009 (i think).
The hanger is a 3d enviroment that you can move around, you can still access menus and chat however. The hanger basically shows your merc in his current favorite suit, a racial troop carrier ship similar to the amarian flavoured ones shown in the prophecy video with its boarding ramp ready to receive troops.
You start a squad and invite friends to join. As they join they appear in the hanger along side you so you can see your squad in the flesh (well pixels). They are roaming about the place as well.
As the commander you call up the star chart and scan for things to do while talking to your squad. You decide to join a fight or explore ... the mercs board the ship..... fade to black......
So i suppose point of this is do we want a merc quarters, and hanger thats just a picture with a person walking across it every know and then or should it be a functional environment in some way? what counts? the minimum time taken to get to a match or the immersion factor (longer time to get to a match but more depth?)
Personally i'd like to see a bit more depth similar to what ive mentioned above - especially if, as the squad commander the hanger was yours personally and there were small alcoved areas around it where your merc kept his trophies (by this i mean things like holograms of say his past dropsuits, vehicles etc medals earned similar to the ones corps can give out in EVE) etc. Your squad members could marvel at how good (or bad) at the game you were.

I fully agree there should be some social spaces (outside of battles) where people can interact, but I would not mind to have a menu like they showed at Fanfest at login. When I just want a quick game in Dust the first thing I do is open the Neocom, so for me it would be better to be there per default.
With that said, this is the social areas I would like to have: - A simple command room / personal quarters, where you can spawn in your squad before battles, show of your trophies and decorate (if you want) - exactly like you suggest - A corp hangar (in a station I guess) where you can check out and equip from common pool of equipment, as well as socialise with your corp mates. The CEO should be able to decorate this with banners and the like. - A warbarge level where you prepare before battle, preferable even during transit to the destination district / planet (if my dream of a true sandbox experience comes true.... Holds thumbs )
These maps should be small but functional. |

I sort of like the idea of having your squad members spawn into your merc quarters when you are forming a squad.
- Have a spawn point in your merc quarters (like a permanent drop uplink).
- When scanning for battles, have what you are seeing projected onto the big screen so the rest of the squad can see what battles are available and comment.
- I like having a hologram wall to display your achievements and awards.
- Make the Merc quarters a little bigger to accommodate 6 people.
It would be nice if Corporations could purchase a corporate office, which would be a bigger space that Corp members can spawn into for meetings.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

The hangar at the 2014 Fanfest reminded me of the hangar in Eve Online which is cool. But with Legion I would suggest going further than just having a Merc\Captain Quarters. From a gamers perspective I do agree it is time to bring the community within scope of each other as opposed to just the battlefield. Social areas would breathe a sense of environment that promotes immersion for the size of New Eden. The fact hat we are a Avatar only lends to the immersion of social areas outside of combat.
Corp offices Space Stations to walk in Cantinas to drink in Social areas to trade in.
I can make this too for 20 a month with the Unreal Engine 4 :) |

Not to sure about the cantinas idea it still has to be relevant to a game about shooting faces imo.

Right now it's all FPS lobby shooter, and not the slightest bit MMO (except we do have character sheets and MMO style progression).
