Ive recently tried them out and got pretty good with them once you got used to them. I mainly use them vs infantry and it works really well (2 shot kills are quite frequently) and heavys get drilled too. A LAV with small rails can aswell be used to defend yourself vs. dropships (espacially pythons). Hell i even received a hatemail using small rails on a LAV. Think of them like a mix of the rail and sniper rifle. each shot deals more damage then proto snipers but its shots faster. |

And leaves you vulnerable to everything else. Scouts, Heavy, and Tanks 514 remember?
Ok though for holding a line if there are no tanks and you're far from hostiles - in the range of a Rail Rifle.
Honestly, use a Missile turret.

Ive went 22-0 with small rails. They are good and i aswell killed a cloaked scout 4 times in a row cause he thought his cloak would make him invincible. |

He was a terrible scout then. A decent one would work his way around and shotgun you from the back, since tunnel-vision.

I've actually squadded with some guys using damage modded small rail LAVs as tank busters. Driver and gunner in fatsuits, a third to hop out to fend off/distract infantry or forge/swarm and locate unaware targets in overmap. Surprisingly effective if there's only 2-3 tanks out or they're all focused on infantry. Works better on some maps than others.

Small rails on ground vehicles period. I have a buddy that's amazing at using his rail lav. My sniper buddies love my small rails on my tank. Its basically a heavily shielded sniper platform. |

I've done this lately. It's awesome against infantry and even as an AV measure.
Flanking is key and you have to keep a safe distance. Better with a scanner on.
The only problem is that it doesn't work all the time, depends on the match. I'd do it more often if i could, i love it. |
