I have stated my opinions in this thread: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=163048&find=unread however I want to fully address my concerns with BPOs and why we should keep the risk and reward system.
First Point:
CCP Z wrote:This will remain the case in Legion, for different reasons: You will have different contracts offered to you depending on your Dropsuit Meta Level. Basically, if you have 3 fittings with a 120, 200 and 350 Metalevel, you will have access to 3 different brackets where people will have the same Metalevel range as you. So, no Dropsuit will be obsolete. You will have access to non-match made battles, so basically you can pick any Dropsuit you want.
This system seems good on paper, however as you and some over devs keep on saying, you do not want Legion to be like any other MMO out there. Implementing this system will bring equipment close to item levels (or iLVL) in WoW. This will also mean that some people will be excluded from doing missions with the Corp due to their lower level gear even though they may be excellent players.
For example, I have a member in my corp who only have 6 million SP but he can handle himself extremely well and is actually pretty good. I love bringing him into battles (won't bring him into any PCs) due to this skills. If this system is put in and we want to bring him into a 350 Metalevel battle, we wouldn't be able to due to the metalevel of his suits due to his lack of SP.
Second Point:
CCP Z wrote:We offer a much deeper and varied system than almost any MMO on the market, we are just trying to make it more accessible.
This current system you have planned will not make it distinguished from WoW or any other MMO. Best example I can think of is what Path of Exile attempted to do. They succeeded at first but they have started to implement stuff from Diablo 3 (random chests, shrines etc.) and now people are calling it a D3 clone.
I can see people calling Legion a FPS style of WoW due to this system.
Now I may be crazy when I say that, but this is what I'm seeing/hearing right now. So please, reconsider BPO and Metalevel.
My Recommendation:
First off, keep the risk and reward system we currently have.
Secondly, implement blueprints, however make them like blueprints in EVE where you have to manufacture the suit from the BPO and research them to get a blueprint copy.

When I read the title, I was about to be all like, "WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU"But then I read the thread, and I felt bad lol. Also, BPC's can still exist for those who can't afford a BPO to manufacture.
EDIT: Missed that last bit, my bad lol

Yeah, I'm not too good at making titles and sometimes they turn out to be misleading lol

Only dropsuits will be BPO, if that's what you're worried about.
I think it's a way to get rid of our BPOs. Basically, if a suit is 50% of the cost now, a gun is 25% and mods are 25% (none of which is usually true, but just for demonstration) mods will become 75% or something like that, to keep risk/reward similar.
Aside from that, I agree.

The Meta Level thing is a good fix to a problem of Frontline only guys versus Prototype stuff. The problem is, like you said, it is just reverse item level in World of Warcraft. Rather than item level saying "you can't go on this raid because you are 380 item level when you need 400" it is "you can't join this battle with that suit because you are 350 Meta Level when the cap is 150." Though, in your example of not being able to bring your friend, you could simply lower your Meta Level to match him or go into non-match made battles.
And BPO's are only for Dropsuits. I understand where they are coming from with it ("It is expensive so you should be proud to have it and never be unwilling to use it"). I just think the Salvage system is going to be a pain in the butt. The sooner we can get real Industry from EVE or ourselves the better...

But is there a point in not doing it? |

Another thing that BPO suits could be good for? No more rookie loadouts, which have always been terrible and overused by players that don't know better. |

I don't mind dropsuites as BPO from a game standpoint. I own a lot of BPOs which I primarily like for their looks, but can't effectively use in a fight due to their stats being crap. Right now they are only good for showing off in the warbarge. If they carry over to Legion I assume they will have the same stats as the "normal" suite (tiers are gone after all), which will make the more useful.
With that said, I have been a vocal opponent to the current Dust BPO model since I think it breaks the Lore in New Eden. I guess the same arguments can be brought over to Legion, but there is a subtile difference if ALL suites are BPOs, which can be incorporated into the Lore. After all, even EVE have "permanent" items like clothing and even special "implants" which (Lore wise) gets automatically installed in a new clone at death. |

Yeh it would make sense lore wise the dropsuits are incorprated into baseline clone costs, uogradeing or side grading your site could work line in EvE where you buy a higher grade clone

But those aren't physical assets.
And they don't get burned on a daily basis.
And they aren't special.
There's no point in it being here.
EDIT: Also, the lore has been already made for the suits, with them being consumable.
