step 1) Firstly, CCP really ought to have data gathering tools and archiving programs to aid in researching popularity/effectiveness of items/fitting archtypes to help create a more balanced and diverse experience. I recommend this be a thing they make so they can ctrl+f "breach shotgun" and see how popular it is/how well it's doing in terms of success so they can edit #s accordingly to better bring the game into balance. Not saying anything specifically about breach shotguns but they do kind of suck imo relative to normal shotties. Another example, ctrl+F "armor tank fitting population percentage" and compare it to "shield tank fitting population percentage" Honestly the uses of this kind of feature are endless.
step 2) Secondly, I suggest CCP buy some calculators and learn to do basic arithmetic.
example of basic arithmetic applied to decipher weapon balance below as proof of concept to illustrate to ccp why dropping out of school and not going to college is never a good idea.
duvolle assault rifle: 33 damage. 750 RPM. 60/84 optimal/max effective range. 60 x 33 = 1980 damage per clip 33x750=24750/60= 412.5 dps until 1980 damage is achieved (60/750) * 60 = 4.8 seconds to deal 1980.
basic combat rifle: 27 damage. 1200 RPM. 56/70 optimal/max effective range. 54 x 27 = 1458 damage per clip. 32400/60= 540 dps until 1458 damage is done (54/1200) * 60 = 2.7 seconds to empty the clip and deal 32400 damage. 54 x 27 = 1458 damage per clip.
tl;dr prototype AR is 77% the DPS of a basic combat rifle before modifiers, given the huge prominence armor tanking has over shield tanking, this offensive imbalance extends even further to the basic combat rifle's favor.
let's discuss shield DPS for a second.
412.5 x 1.25 = 515.6 shield DPS for 4.8 seconds.
540 x 0.95 = 513 shield dps for the BASIC combat rifle.
assuming 1000 shield hit points on a target...
the prototype AR takes 1.93 seconds to kill the shields. the basic CR takes 1.94 seconds to kill the shields
TL;DR numerically they're the same before you start to consider isk, cpu and pg factors. Then the CR is indisputably dominant
now for armor DPS
412.5 x 0.95 = 391.9 dps for the prototype assault rifle against armor regardless of skill investment.
540 x 1.25 = 675 dps for the basic combat rifle fully skillled into efficiency/proficiency
540 x 1.10 = 594 dps with only 1 skill invested.
proto AR is 58% of a skilled basic CR proto AR is 65% of a completely unskilled CR against armor
armor is the only dps worth looking at anyways cuz of how crappy shields are now.
and tbh that 6 extra bullets per clip ARs get and those 6 extra yards they get are beyond trashy and forgettable advantages once you consider the 65% dps difference between a proto AR and a 1 point CR investment.
TL;DR just spend 1 skill point in combat rifles to completely outperform completely skilled up proto assault rifle users
Seriously I didn't even touch on ISK or CPU/PG comparisons, and there's no need to either, since the conclusion would still be the same.
Reloading is pretty null and void too, you're either dead, you killed the guy or you took cover by the time you have to reload anyways |
