From what I can tell, you and Aeon appear to be our top contenders this year. Obviously anything can happen, but I'd say you two are looking the most secure out of all of the candidates from what I can glean from those I know who feel they still have a stake in this game. Keep up the good work.

It will probably be a website very similar or even identical to the one used for CSM voting this year. I doubt they decided to reinvent the wheel for this.

Voting is in many ways about who votes. In a game or otherwise those who actually vote tend to be a minority. In this case (unlike IRL politics) there is every reason to represent everyone rather than focus on some select sub-group so in theory (time will tell if this works in practice) being open to communicating with everyone is the most effective idea, not just for votes but for actually doing the job if elected.
At minimum I want to make sure that I'm an effective candidate. If I am then should I not be elected I've done some good work. On the other hand if I'm divisive, deaf to the community or adversarial then even if I am elected I won't be contributing positively to the process.
"Lone Wolf'ing" is often bad practice in Dust, but it's worse practice for a member of the CPM. Whoever is ultimately selected to fill those seven seats I hope they keep a firm focus on Good of the game > personal play style or preferences of any single player sub-group

CPM is not needed. If you want to do something amazing, get CCP to care for the feedback section like they claim to care about lolCPM.
But, none of the CPM Canadidiates even touch upon that subject, why? Because it makes there desired seat look bad. But, in honestly, if CPM wants to be effective they should be aggressively pointing CCP to the feedback section and having them post the quests there that they give to CPM in meetings.

Long Evity, it's not just about the feedback section. The CPM have to be able to both have good ideas, and be able to evaluate good and bad ones, for discussions that can't take place in a public venue. And when possible to have those discussions in public, yes, it's the CPM's job to ensure that takes place, and that CCP sees it.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

But, in honestly, if CPM wants to be effective they should be aggressively pointing CCP to the feedback section and having them post the questions there that they give to CPM in meetings. As Xel correctly points out communicating with CCP is about more than the feedback section. Being sure CCP is aware of threads and ideas within the feedback section is relevant of course, but the forums in their entirety aren't the whole player base and even if they were that lacks first had perspective.
When cats like Soraya and I speak of being a conduit for communication with the community we're talking about more than pointing a CCP Dev to a thread or link and saying "hey guy, read that". It's about condensing quality feedback from multiple sources and providing a TL;DR (with links) for CCP quick action. It's being in the game playing and then interacting (not just with CCP or CPM members) about what we see first hand to test it. It's keeping in mind various separate ideas and how they could effect each other to fit desired improvements into the game together and it's pushing all that through the added perspective of the NDA, then back out in as a complete (non-NDA breaking) form as possible to the community.
The CPM, in it's most effective form is about more than a single game aspect, and does more than simply index ideas or ping CCP when a thread pops up. I spend most of my forum time in the Feedback section and have since closed beta. I've always posted and bumped threads that need CCP attention and still do currently (for example) but there are conversations with players which happen in other forum sections, on Skype, via in game mail, in squads, etc etc There's testing, spreadsheets, videos and more that push ideas. This is all stuff I (and many CPM candidates) are already part of and have been for a long time.
So if we're already doing so much for the game why elected us? What makes any of us as CPM members more effective than what we're already doing? As Soraya says, it allows us the access and information to have those conversations with CCP that cannot take place in a public venue, ensure that those discussions take place at all, and then bring as much of them as we're able back to the community.
To my knowledge no one running for CPM is avoiding talking about the meaning or function of the CPM, there is simply little point in rehashing what has already been stated by CCP. Even in your above quote you state that CCP caring about the feedback section would be amazing, that getting them to maintain involvement there would be of value, well, CPMs have a higher than average level of communication with the Devs so being a member of the CPM affords the opportunity to draw CCPs attention to those posts in Features and Ideas Discussion in a way non of the candidates will be able to do otherwise, so even your post asking the purpose of the CPM provides one aspect of the answer to that very question.

Cheers Long Evity, Feel free to keep the questions (and any relevant thread links ) coming. I may not always have an answer to everything but I'm happy to provide my best efforts to field the question regardless (and as to links, well I find the feedback section interesting even when I don't have anything new/specific to add to a particular thread I read significantly more threads there than I have posts to make).
Speaking of boundaries in community communication, each candidate elected to a CPM seat will have vastly more value if they (hopefully we ) are able to earn sufficient trust from the community that we can be active points of community interaction. A CPM that isn't trusted will be vastly inferior in value to one that is trusted, but the office and forum tag do not magically bestow trust that's something each of us has to earn (as much as possible before the elections so we're effective from day 1). Questions like yours allow us the opportunity to present our views and understandings to the community, and hopefully build that trust. So thanks again for asking.

Cross Atu for CPM1. Thanks CatDog I had no idea when I was giving those first pointers how much of a monster I was unleashing upon Dust. I can't help but laugh at things like squading up and watching you leaping through the air over and over again to keep that incoming squad off me so I could AV the HAV. We wouldn't need to buff AV if every dedicated AV guy had a CatDog clone defending them Glad to have your support, and your presence in game bud.

Which brings me to my next question for you: Do you even have hope for a Dust game we envisioned, or have you, as well, left the fantasies and dreaming for Legion to accomplish?
The only reason Dust will get content update is to beta test for legion, right? Fundamentally, there's nothing wrong with that, and it opens up Dust to be directly integrated into Legion someday, which is still quite possible. CCP changes there minds more often then a tsundere at that time of the month.
But what exactly do you see Dust at by the end of your CPM term? Where will the community, CPM, and CCP stand? As it is now - each of the 3 groups stand on different platforms and are not seeing eye to eye. The reason the community distrust CPM has more to do with reputation as posters then it had to do with there involvement in the game.

The reason the community distrust CPM has more to do with reputation as posters then it had to do with there involvement in the game. Hope can be a double edged sword, I admit, however if I had none for the game I wouldn't be here running for CPM.
Regarding your question, in a CPM term of one year I do not believe we'll see all the potential of Dust actualized. Even Legion development aside Dust 514 holds so much promise conceptually that a single year would be hard pressed to push it all into game in a functional state.
Functional state is actually the key as far as I see it, CCP Rattati is engaging with feedback in a way I wish we'd seen in closed beta and focusing on an iterative approach to balance. Continuing that trend and method (which would be both CCPs and the CPMs job) will help Dust begin to reach in game balance between things like items, roles, TTK, et al. I have no doubt there will be bumps in the road but bringing what we already have in Dust to a more polished state would make a substantial impact on game play and fun value. Even new content of some types isn't completely off the table (details) under the current development method.
Expanding, polishing, and stabilizing Dust 514 makes good business sense for CCP as I see it. If done well, it provides a lot of valuable and important data for Legion, positive word of mouth about their commitment to their games, a place for this community to migrate too (character transfers confirmed), and value added to the current play experience. This is not a guaranteed win of course, we need CCP to stay active and engaged, and honestly we need the same thing from the player community.
I'd love to promise the sky by the end of my CPM term, because frankly, I want the sky but I'm a bit more pragmatic than that so I'm shooting for a more attainable, if still lofty, goal. Bring the communication and interaction of the community, CPM and CCP into stronger alignment. Promote game balance and as much new content as possible and reach for an enjoyable worthwhile game experience within Dust while paving the way for meaningful character transfers into the improved experience of Legion (we all knew hardware migration would be required someday, so the key to Legion in my eyes is capitalizing on that while making best efforts not to leave the current community or our investments behind when the day for that hardware upgrade finally arrives).
I'm not kidding myself, it's a tall order for one year, but it's worth working for and I'd like the opportunity to give my best shot at making a contribution to it. (Silver lining? Even if we aim at that goal and fall short, we're still going to have a gain in game play experience so it doesn't have to be all or nothing... which is not to say the silver lining is any reason to push for an iota less than can be accomplished)
Cheers, Cross

You sold me when you said you would be pushing for console players on PS4.
Some of us are console only & CCP made promises to a community that they are turning they're back on, famously the "Lazor focused", PVE, & "multiple years" quotes. I did not expect Dust 514 to stay on PS3.
I expected it to be expanded & go to PS4 as early as possible so maybe more people on PS4 seeing a low libeary of games & see "Dust 514 - free to play shooter" would get it growing the player-base.
I do NOT care about Valkyrie, I have all my stuff here on Dust 514, i'm here to be a clone merc not a space PS4 Valhalla capsuleer pilot.
When at Fan Feast CCP used Dust 514's note for a supposed "project in the makes" that was the Dust 514 we all dreamed for & wanted, larger battles, better graphics, weather effects, drones, better faction warfare, all we suggested & dreamed for as console players was going to be took to a platform we didn't want.
CCP stated when they brought it to consoles it was a huge success though it eventually steadied to a stable.... lol "low" 500k (how is 500k low? anyway?) loyal players helping the company. DEV's and no 1 mentioned this till the keynote of a unfinnished possibly not even great product that already many dislike.
Yet they are pushing it & even made a "Project Legion" page. Look at Watch Dogs - it didn't turn out like advertised, still good but not as promised. Legion is already unwanted unless Legion is put on PS4 as Dust 514 reborn or something.
Dust 514's advertised key feature allowed for cross PC - console play but that was apparently thrown out the window. People took it personally for good reason, some were so shocked they biomassed & personally I do not blame them. Since then Dust 514 has roughly lost 200k or 20k people those that remain are just riding it out to the end.
We don't know the maxium lose till Legion. The only people that found it" funny & great" were PC players, who didn't care about how much console players equally cared for if not more so cared for Dust 514. If you go to the forums & even YOUtube those PC players are the ONLY people that are happy.
Console players don't want to pay extra $ for a PC plus a rumored subscription & leave over half they're friends on console. For 1 game that might not even be grand.
My apologies for the rant but it's the truth.
I hope you will represent us very well as best you can over time (unlike some other appointed CPM's) |

Cross, I think you just decided this week's title. Jaysyn is the official gate of who gets to come on the show right now.
I'd like to be your CPM1 candidate

OP updated with my recent Biomassed appearance thanks as always go out to the hosts and crew of Biomassed for putting on the show and allowing me the chance to participate.
To those considering candidates hearing us speak live on stream (even if it's via the recorded stream afterword) is a good tool for getting to know who represents you. I'd also point you towards Vote Match as a valuable tool for finding your candidate list and the order to place them in.
Cheers, Cross

Hello!
Great read of the OP - really excited to see your first campaign discussion point is in fact the playerbase (something a lot of other candidates seem to have missed off their statements!) I couldnt agree more than this is the primary concern for a CPM group - i do how ever have some questions about this.
Given the fanfest (some call it the Rouge Wedding) poor comms incident and its subsequent fall out that saw quite a few big playerbase groups quit the game entirely - and not in a very nice way - what do you feel you would have done given that the CPM0 knew about the entire situation well before hand and were bound by the NDA to not release it.
How would you have handled such a large and playerbase impacting 'hot potato'? what more could have been done perhaps by the CPM to reduce / negate the drama this cause to the playerbase?
Also i note that your 2nd campaign policy is based on the Legion product and not Dust 514, what do you feel Dust 514 should have or do in this area of discussion? could more emergent game play be built into Dust? do you feel CCP should be developing Dust for this?
And on your last point - Cross Platform integration - it was a great read and certainly gives route for some exciting product development but i would like to clarify, are you suggesting Dust 514 should be put across platforms or is this another Legion deliverable you wish to be part of?
Thanks for clarifications and replies!

Cross Atu wrote: Which brings me to platform integration. I play on both console and PC, I've enjoyed both experience and firmly believe in the idea of Legion coming to both PC and PS4. While I acknowledge that this is a long term goal as Legion is not even in beta state yet, I do not believe it is too early to keep a dual platform approach in mind even as CCPs choice of PC focused development moves forward. In short, I hope to foster development choices that are not only good for the game, but support an expanded community on both the PS4 and PC in the coming days of Legion.
I must say i like the posts you've put up thus far.. As i've already said about Judge and Jackal, you come across as more mature and professional, and you seem to also be leaving ego at the gateway... Very pleased to see this.
The reason i've included your quote above about the cross platform integration, i strongly disagree. Let me elaborate.
Firstly so you understand where i'm coming from.. I've been a games programmer on AAA games for many many years now. So i understand a lot about what it takes to make games cross platform, and in absolute honesty.. even with my experience i wouldn't want to do something like this without even more experienced coders than myself...
So to my point..
CCP made dust 514 and failed to deliver on a 'ridiculous' amount of features. CCP are great at standing on a pedestal which was errected back when Eve came about and seem to think they are still masters of innovation. The simple truth is CCP themselves need to step down from that pedestal and stop being so egotistical.. They have proved at best to be somewhere between Amateur and Professional at what they have achieved with Dust 514. Whether the reasons being bad management, bad communication, not enough experience, taxed resources... i can't honestly say, but something has been 'very' wrong. That's obvious.
This means that i have 'no faith' in them as a company being able to handle creating a great and quality game which spans different platforms. I'm not saying it can't be done... but the way they have presented themselves for the last several years in Eve and in Dust.. they need to focus.. and then need to get 1 thing right before advancing.
To this end, i maintain that CCP should fully focus on making Legion PC specific with the 'potential' in the future to then port to other consoles 'if' Legion has the features it should have, and is of a high enough quality. The more they focus on cross platform, the more quality will be lost from the game and the more missed features.
So i hope you can understand this external perspective from a games developer who 'really really really' wants CCP to get Legion right. The games have such potential.. i want CCP to deliver on it, rather than promise us gold but leave us with brass.. yet again..
but aaaannnyyywway... despite my disagreement with this issue... i think you are a very good candidate for going ahead, i wish you the best of luck.

It is difficult to answer such a question conclusively, considering that we are all - myself included - essentially blind to what the specific constraints of the NDA were and what information was or was not able to be discussed or disclosed in any manner. If for example the blanket edict from CCP was that "nothing connected to Legion may be discussed" then there's functionally almost no legal recourse for a member of the CPM but to sit on their hands and fume in quite frustration (as far as public discourse goes). And to abjectly rail against such
