Words from the horses mouth! Discuss!
Dust is NOT a bad game. CCP is a BAD COMPANY!
Conspriacy:
They allowed/wanted Dust to FAIL! They used Sony to get free advertisement. They suckered in players to get them hooked, then took it all away. They did not want anyone to succeed. They allowed the game to fester and turn into one big mess. They NEEDED this to happen in order to justify removing the BPO's. All for the sake of cancelling it just to rename the game and cut out Sony.
The fact of the matter is, consule gamers will always be just that. You can NOT take a fish out of water and expect him to be happy! I am LOYAL to Sony. Everything in my house is Sony. That is a company I know and trust. They stand behind their customers. It's obvious that CCP needs to stick to 'pc' games. After dust, I'll stick with Consule gameing companies.

Nah I think they just messed up. I reckon if they had stayed on the PC then the pod people would have spent money in droves.
If it was intentional then they have not made any friends with the console players or Sony.

Dust could have been a very good game.
The platform was not the limiting factor. The talent CCP has to utilize the platform is very limited.
I very much like the skill system in Dust in many ways. Dead levels should be eliminated but the fact that skill points in dust actually mean a lot was nice. |

What I don't understand is , why release Valyrkie or how ever it's spelled on the PS 4 if they couldn't get Dust right ?
Why take away one to replace it with another and not expect to have the same problems ?
It's the same company with the same dev's , so what's going to be so different this time ?
When this game is done ... I'm done with CCP and wouldn't advise anyone to involve themselves with any of their products .
Those who like it and them .. can have it and them .

Dust was, and still is in a lot of ways, a bad game. He is absolutely right about that. If that wasn't the case it would have reviewed better and more people would be playing it.

Well, there are two relevant facts here you've missed: one, the PS4 is a PC with a different interface so programming for PS4 = almost the same thing as for PC, and two, (this is the big one ) I'm in the process of buying a PC.

The real question about porting Legion to consoles someday is cross gaming...
The very core of the game (persistence, fight matters, sandbox) implies that if legion were to go on PS4 someday, players from both console and PC would end up to be fighting alongside and against each other. Without even considering the technical aspect of cross gaming, the simple matter of balance between hyper-buffed PC player with highly customizable mouse, keyboard and more raw power etc... vs console players with controllers and a set config would be impossible to solve.
Some tried before, and failed, quickly and hard. And those were not games with deep MMO aspect and persistence. Sony with PS2 never even thought about PC/PS4 cross play for a second as they knew it would be the game developing equivalent of chopping your **** off
So yeah, i have trouble seeing that happend. And even more trouble seeing a PS4 only Legion as that would pretty much go against the single shard experience.

In some of the later builds while DUST was still in beta, it came closer than any previous game has to balancing mouse and keyboard with a console controller. They've since broken it horribly, but if they built the PC version from the ground up with balance against gamepads in mind, and DO IT ACTUALLY RIGHT THIS TIME, then cross-play can be relatively balanced.
High-end PCs will have an advantage over the PS4, but high-end gear gives an advantage against other PC gamers too. Also, contrary to popular belief, and CCP's attempt at console development with DUST, there are in fact console games with fully remappable controls. Look at Armored Core V and Verdict Day. Look at Brink. It's not as common as it should be, but it can be done and it isn't an unreasonable expectation for a game that's also being developed on PC. It also wasn't an unreasonable request for DUST back when we were still being led to believe DUST was actually seeing continued development. |
