Who is Legion being designed for, us or the Eve Online community?
I decided to take up Eve Online for the 2 week free trial right after the May 2 atomic bomb that was Fanfest regarding the future of our game, our thing as it were.
Eve is in a word...tedious. You may have heard it referred to as "spreadsheets in space."
Let me be clear...I love strategy games. I played XCOM: UFO Defense back in the day. Not the dumbed down 2012 version. The original 1994. Played every Civilization. etc. Again, I only have 2 weeks into Eve Online so take my opinion thusly. It's tedious. The combat is boring. The fun lies in managing your ship's modules. Or mining. Exploration tutorial gave me a migraine.
My point? Is Legion supposed to appeal to these Eve players? The two genres could not be more different. The type of gamer who enjoys DUST is not necessarily the same gamer who would play Eve. And I LOVE STRATEGY GAMES.
DUST 514 was "our thing; cosa nostra". I don't understand CCP's marketing direction.
If they think they are making legion to appeal to their core Eve base, my opinion is they are misguided in their management. Eve players are not going to be FPS players regardless of the Universe tie in.
My two ISK's.

we'll just have to see, and hope that some version that appeals to the console fps crowd eventually appears on ps4.

How about we just throw out these titles for different types of gamers according to their platform and genre preference then ask the question.
It's made for gamers who enjoy FPS titles with depth.
What you must add to your thought process before discussing anything is that CCP originally was going to put Dust 514 on PC in the first place. They then changed their mind, upsetting the folks who wanted to play it but had no console.
The EVE generalization is really played out. Seems that folks think so robotic when it comes to these topics. To think that one person can only play one genre of video games. For gamers to fuel stupid console wars, only pledging allegiance to one console and trashing the other. This is nonsense and limiting to the person who holds such thoughts. EVE players been wanting to experience Dust since CCP first shared it with them.
I believe, with the above said, that the majority of those who will play Legion will support it more than Dust has ever been supported. After all, the PC community is a FPS community whether that's acknowledged or not.

I am here to relieve you of your concerns. It is being designed for neither the Dust 514 community nor the EVE Online community. Both are considered too intelligent for mass appeal according to CCP Z. |

My two ISK's. honestly i think they are trying to appeal to the PC shooter base. it's quite large. and PC players tend to dump money into f2p games... go play ghost recon phantoms try to have a match even at the beginner level where you dont get popped buy someone who's spent money. EDIT: money guns in GRP can kill you in 3 hits, usually
and the idea that it takes 7-8 years to max your character well you just cant spend 7-8 years on a console they dont last that long
see you on other games

legion is not being built for dust players or eve players.
it's being built for a whole different demographic.
if it was an fps with all the bells and whistles of an eve game's sandbox i'd be super happy.
but that's not what is being developed. |
