As the title states.... I dont mean what is it meant to do in theory, I mean what does it ACTUALLY do?
I have tried all of the settings and to be honest I'm not even sure that I can notice any difference. Not in terms of texture quality, or performance improvements.
I think possibly it might be tied in with render range for the clearer textures maybe?
Honestly I found that turning off chat or turning chat to push to talk makes a much more substantial difference to gameplay performance.
Anyone have any ideas? |

actually, I too would like to know. I messed around with the settings to see if it made a difference sniping. The only thing I could see is that it doesn't render certain installations at far distances, but when you zoom in the installation is suddenly rendered.
e.x. a clone hiding behind a supply depot. at first it doesn't look like anything, just empty terrain. but when you zoom in with the scope the supply depot and little red pointer suddenly pop up.

probably nothing, you mean to say this game can actually look WORSE?

This might be totally subjective but I have the feeling it very slightly improves fps. At least everytime I increase grafx quality the game seems even more sluggish to me and I have to switch it back immediately.

I called a PC version was coming ever since I began playing DUST.. so I believe you should be able to sense the sarcasm in my previous post.

I play on low settings. I've noticed some issues with rendering but my overall FPS seems to be higher and lag seems to be reduced, minimally. It does have downsides though. Cloaked scouts are more difficult to see, uplinks don't render as well and are difficult to notice outside of 20-30m, grenade indicators (which have always been broken) are basically non-existent and there's far more floating grass piles.
Overall it doesn't make much of a difference IMO, but I use it to make myself feel like it does. |

Back when PC lag was worse there was an urban myth that the low setting would improve gameplay. It didn't, lol. |
