So, I've been daydreaming about my "Ultimate Legion Sandbox" game play, so here's a couple of things:
1. No maps. Give us actual procedurally generated planets. They don't have to look like much, think planetary exploration in Mass Effect, but they should be huge.
2. Let us scan the planets for juicy resources and build our own installations with modular buildings anywhere we want. Anything from enormous industrial complexes with turrets coming out the wazoo, to tiny little pirate hideouts deep in some remote valley.
3. If you want to find something to shoot at you have to scan the planet for heat signatures, radio chatter, etc. You can either get help from Eve players in orbit, or deploy a satellite to do it.
4. No reinforcement timers. If someone finds my little hideout while I'm out, tough luck. We should of course be able to cram our bases and hideouts full of NPC turrets and marines to hold the fort while we're offline.
5. ISK should be worth the same in both Eve and Legion. If I'm bankrolled by a major Eve alliance I would expect to have deep pockets and access to the best gear.
These are just some general points, but it should give an impression of what I was thinking. Let the flaming commence. |

These are just some general points, but it should give an impression of what I was thinking. Let the flaming commence. Point One. Do you realise just how many planets there are in New Eden? No way in hell, there will never be enough players for that. Point Two. See District Infrastructure. It just needs a good overhaul for InDUSTry. -Wherever you want is negated by point 1 Point Three. You notice it takes three full minutes (or so) to lock onto a pre-known district alone with an orbital strike? You also notice how close-ranged personal scanners (even active scanners) are? Point Four. Hell. No. You HAVE to be able to fight over what's yours. It doesn't have to be dealt with by Reinforcement timers, but leaving it to prayers is just...Hell no. Point Five. I have no problem with this. Overall, your vision for legion sucks. It just can't be like that, it would never work. No offense intended.
No offense taken. Let me clarify a couple of things:
1. True, there's something like 70K planets I think. They should start with barren planets, since they would be fairly easy to create procedurally. All brown/grey with plains and mountains and a nice skybox. Start with a few planets in Molden Heath to shake things out, and then slowly expand. As for size - they should be big enough that you can't randomly walk around and find an outpost.
2. I was thinking no districts at all. You build where you want/where the resources are. You would find a nice spot on a planet, go down and survey it, get the surveyed area into a "building app" (could be standalone) where you can design your ultimate outpost with modular pieces. Corridors, rooms, turrets, power-sources, shielding, factory units, clone vats, landing pads etc. When you're done you hit the "Finished" button, and it spits out a blueprint. You then get all the materials needed and start building. The survey part is to avoid people using the building interface to spy on others (you can only see the area you already surveyed).
3. Not sure what you mean here. It should take longer than that to find a hidden outpost somewhere on a planet. Say, survey from orbit, get a general area (heat signature for instance), then go down with a scout (or five) to check it out and plan your assault, or just sneak in and do some sabotage (blow up their clone vats for instance. No reinforcements for you!, or take out their shielding, so your buddies in orbit can lock on and bring the pain, or their AA guns, so you can bring in your dropships full of heavies, etc. etc.).
4. I kinda agree with you here. I just don't like the idea of something being magically invulnerable large parts of the day. You could maybe restrict it to a six or eight hour window each day (chosen by you) so you'll at least be awake when it hits the fan. One hour isn't enough. It's like calling ahead and telling your enemy when you'll be attacking. There should be an element of "Oh ****! We're under attack!".
5. Yay!
