legion is set to become a lobby shooter atm, nothing i've seen so far makes it much of a sandbox, it'll have have pve sure but they haven't touched on how any of the battles will have any more meaning then the pub matches we do today.
combine that with dumbed down skill systems, mag style roles/skills, and the removal of several risk factors like losing your suit and you pretty much have a lobby shooter. |

Has there been enough of a road map for Legion to be able to say this? I was under the impression that Legion was going to be on PC just to be able to bring the player market and a deep EVE link aka all the things we were promised that would have made the game NOT a lobby shooter.
well what we know so far.
CCP Z is highly resistant against player opinion involving the skill system, he wishes to take it farther away from the eve roots into a simpler system more akin to MAG or planet side 2, forcing players into predefined roles.
equipment risk is being reduced in a way, we will risk modules but the suits will all be blue prints, this farther separates from eve, and even if the isk risked remains the same it farther seperates dust from eve's industry/economy styled roots.
Game Play -
the only confirmed game modes for the sand box were salvage where players enter into a post battle scenario and you fight other players and drones for scrap and other weapons, but in no way has any part of this mode been said to be anything but randomized.
you will enter into an utterly pointless area and fight randomized pointless battle with no significance on the rest of the sandbox world. even if it's tied to a real battle that may occur, it's not like their will be salvage in the spot where you killed that tank while you were fighting in it.
nearly all randomized battles and contracts will remain just that randomized battles, pc will likely get reworked and those might become significant but like with dust those will probably be the only significant battles.
it's still too early to tell if legion will really be this way but I've read most of the road map stuff and discussions in the legion forums and making battles that actually effect the universe is still not even a blip on the radar, while completely reworking a skill system that nobody thinks should be changed is the main focus. |
