After all the work CCP put into Dust it would be a shame to just let it die. If the player count remained high enough do you think CCP might keep it around to fill a corner of New Eden separate from the PC port of Dust? (I refuse to call this game, in any form or on any platform, "Legion") Separate from the PC port but connected to it?
Note: CCP, it might be a good idea to stop spending ridiculous amounts of money on Fanfest and spend it on hiring more Devs so you can work on more things at once.
Side Question:
A port to ps4 from PC, according to CCP, is up in the air. I highly doubt it will happen, not the least because of problems caused by raw kb/m input vs analogue stick controls, but I will keep my Dust 514 character around just in case they find a way to make it work. So, for those of you waiting around for news on a port to ps4, what will you be doing in the meantime?
I will be playing chess on my ps4 mostly. When Planetside 2 drops I will likely check it out, but beyond that I'm pretty much done with gaming. If anyone wants to play a game of chess, my PSN ID is in my sig =)

Yes/no. To integrate Dust into New Eden further would refute CCP's claim that the PS3 is too limited a platform to realise the Grand Idea that they have about mercs in space. That being said, I think there is a case to be made for focusing on Faction Warfare and PC further.
If we want Dust to continue in any meaningful way CCP is going to have to completely change the focus of the game, because everything they originally planned it to be is now Legions' remit to fulfill.

I firmly agree with the PS4 port not happening. It doesn't make sense, from a business perspective. CCP is hoping to gain new market with Valkyrie on the PS4 (then again, they aren't leaving their comfort zone with Legion, so, maybe they don't mind double (triple) dipping) so, they will do their best to bring Legion to the XB1. If M$ is willing to play ball this time, they will have audiences on all major platforms, assuming the EVE 2: Tablet Edition makes enough strides for an announcement at E3...
I never liked trolling, but, I had to add in that last bit.
I 'support' EVE:Legion. Since the PS4 is just a dream, make it easy to sell our characters and our Beta access...

It makes most business sense to get your title on as many platforms as possible and these games will kind of advertise each other. I'm betting on a PS4 release despite the non-commital responses.
OT, I would be quite happy if CCP expanded on the FW aspect of DUST, fleshed it out, added the rest of the weapons & Minmatar/Amarr vehicles, updated the LP store and went on with the PC changes they mentioned. Basically just built upon what's already there.

They could have but, it is too late. Damaged goods. CCP should have played it safe at first, covered their butts and not over-hyped their efforts before they had even started.
They should have started with the simple idea of expanding to the console market with a simple FPS that had a specific connection to EVE. That connection could have been the initial unlocking of districts by completely bypassing any mechanics in EVE. That's it. A nice little console game with one goal and one simple connection with EVE.
Then they could develop Legion on PC that would be the ground/planetary equivalent of EVE. Legionaries could unlock districts however, they wouldn't be able to do it so simply and would have to deal with elements in EVE to do it.
That way DUST would be the small scale merc forces that make an initial attack and can circumvent anything in EVE to do one simple task GÇô open the district to attack. In the meantime you'd have what exists now for enjoyment and incentive in DUST which is the chest thumping and epeening over leaderboard competition.
Legion forces would be the main forces that would lay prolonged siege to the districts. Legionaries would benefit by being able to salvage and whatever else Legion will have.
In time, if DUST showed signs of not succeeding then as Legion got going they could easily dump it with no hard feelings.
They should have never promoted DUST as the main ground force game with the big connection to EVE considering they did not have FPS dev experience, did not know what they were going to get into with the console and did not even plan on being able to add significant functionality any time soon.
I doubt Legion will have very much EVE connectivity up front because that connectivity in DUST is as much a part of CCPs slow development process as it is the limits with the PS3. They have proven that to be so with EVE development and even admitted to careful, well planned (read OCD) development of features.

I don't care much for the PC vs console debate, but honestly that's what it's going to be. All the work that might have gone into DUST for the last 6+ months has gone into Legion. The technical limitations on the PC aren't as severe.
As much as I dislike the console group being left out, it's sadly probably true.

I'm aware it's about as unlikely as the PC port is likely to be green lit, I just got bored playing chess vs the AI and decided to toss hypotheticals around to pass some time. It's sad, but it's the raw truth that Dust is soon to be gone. Since it's going to PC it may as well be disappearing altogether as far as it concerns my presence in it, thus the oxymoron perspective. It wasn't meant to cause offense.

My guess is that if Legion become a thing it will just be called DUST 514 rather than EVE: Legion, though it could be useful as a rebrand to get all the review sites back to take another smell at hopefully a less smelly turd. Because of this, I don't see "DUST 514" as we know it continuing anywhere. My guess is that once the transfer of assets happens, DUST will have maybe a year with zero to no development before it is officially killed off with a whimper.
Going further on that, I foresee a PS4 version of DUST/Legion only if CCP can get the Ps4 version on the same server as the PC version. Otherwise, what is the point? It is just splitting player base which is the same problem I see with Planetside and Destiny really. CCP could basically still pull off the "we are the first to link a console and PC game!" that way and wave their Unique Selling Point in the air.

Personally I could see Dust live by staying in New Eden lore-wise but separating ties to tranquility. This is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree, but I think for the casual free-to-play audience ISK- and asset-management and planetary conquest are rather unnecessary. Dust could absolutely live on persistent character progress, custom loadouts, (tiered) public contracts and faction warfare, as far as I'm concerned. |

I, personally, dont believe that Legion and Dust can coexist in the EVE universe. Once legion has released Dust will have to server its ties to tranquility and EVE: Online to make room for Legion fulfilling those same connection paths.
They can keep high sec public matches going on Dust for as long as the players want it, but at some point the existence of Legion will cause Dust to shut down for good. |

Legion most likely will be ported over to the PS4. With the PS4's architecture being similar to PC's it'll be easy enough to do and they're talking about making the game scalable so even low end PC's can run it; so there's no reason for CCP to not to port it because the PS4 will be more than capable of running it.
Also the only problem with KB/M vs Controllers is the skill of the people using them. If my father could wipe the floor with KB/M users while just using the KB in Tribes, Quake, and Unreal Tournament. Then the controller can do the same because it's not the form of input, it's the skill of the player.
Can't say I'm all that surprised.

Sorry Cody, but I would rather do my best to kill Dust and prevent any other console gamers from getting suckered by CCP than get some port of Legion in some far off future.
Why would anyone believe Legion will have any of the **** CCP promises it will anyway? With CCP I think it is best to take the approach of if you can't play it, don't believe it.

I was actually thinking about this earlier. Keeping Dust as a lobby shooter and removing all of the links to eve could have some good uses for CCP as well as giving us console players something to hold on to.
By removing the eve link and returning corp battles instead of PC the lobby shooter theme would be complete. This would also give them the ability to continue to share stats for balancing weapons on both sides.
