the current argument assumption by most is that dust will have an sp wipe because dusters would have too much of an sp advantage.
so, to be clear looking at eve today it's been out for 10 years or so, is it impossible for any new players to play that game?
if I started today should I expect them to wipe the server so I can stand a chance in that game?
is it required for them to do so?
no, that game is balanced so players of all SP ages can play the game, their is a small initial gap where new players cannot anticipate "WELL" in pvp battles but that is over quickly, during that time all manners of pve content is available to them.
legion needs to be designed this way as well, if it's not then they are wasting their time making legion at all, it will have a restricitive entry point after 3 months, at which point their new player base will dry up like it did in dust and it will flop. If legion is designed well then the sp of the player should not matter, and dust players can carry over their SP just fine as it should be. |

New players in Eve have PvE and high sec to give them a little breathing room.
Beyond that, any new toon will get steam rolled in PvP for months after starting the account. That is why there is such a booming market in character sales.
Designing an FPS around Eve type SP investment and rewards without having a very robust matchmaker or PvE is just asking for a repeat of Dust.
CCP needs to decide if they are trying to make a successful FPS or a PC FPS for Eve players. The first one could be a success, the second won't be.

They mainly marketed it as open world PVE and PVP. There is a market for that and good riddance to the power player FPS console crowd. There will be other things to do instead of the proto grind.

But that's not the assumption. It is confirmed that we will have our progress transferred to Legion.

Seriously ? Where have you been last two years ? This comparison was anticipated and broke down even before Dust got in closed beta...

It's impossible to balance a game that rewards addicts! Look the longer you play and more free time you have ensures a better character, so in the end it's up to the developers to make it so awesome that your gonna play even if you start a yr late. So because of this dusters should have a head start since the main crowd is the og dusters anyway.

If we just want Eve, not an FPS, why make another game?
Because, that's why.

Well I get mixed reports about that, this was definitely true in the time I played eve but that was before tiericide, in the time of eve now i'm told you can pilot a frigate and be useful to some degree in pvp, others tell me you can be of full use in null sec within a month.
To me whether it's true or not, that should be the type of time line you are looking for in legion, and during that first month you should have high sec battles against lower tiered players, and pve content as well.
Dust cannot win as a pure FPS game and shouldn't even try, it's strength has always been in it's permanence that feeling you get when you know you are risking isk for that win. Dust never managed to tap into that very well, if legion can it may be niche but it will appeal to a lot of fps players like myself that were tired of pointless death matches. |

because the blending of fps and eve is a new game, it was supposed to be the world of eve with the action of an fps.
The joke of choice matters wasn't always supposed to be a joke, it was supposed to be the slogan for the dust vision, you would fight battles that matter, the sides you pick would change the landscape of wars, risking gear you may not be able to get again.
instead we have a run of the mill lobby shooter. |
