I personally love EVE but think we shouldn't limit ourselves to exploring other options if they help us achieve a vision that is accessible and interesting to everyone, whilst still maintaining the depth and customization that the Universe is known for.
I think we are all glad that you are willing to explore other options. That is the process that leads to new and interesting things and is well worth the effort to try and see how it goes.
Now like you said:

but beyond that, you have one aspect of this game that is not different at all. Not in the slightest... the New Eden universe.
The New Eden universe is the fabric that will tie CCP's three games together. You guys really have to excel at matching the feeling / consistency between your games if you want to actually build a universe. We worry about this because of what we have seen in DUST. As an EVE player I instantly noticed every discrepancy in DUST when I started playing. The amarr / gallente dropsuits being backwards from EVE drove me crazy until you fixed them. At the same time though, the aspects you mirrored felt familiar and comfortable (item loss comes to mind).
I guess what I'm trying to say is that my experience between EVE and DUST is that the more things are similar / consistent, the better they feel. When you guys diverge things instantly feel wrong, out of place, uncomfortable.
The worry people are expressing about the proposed progression system seems to me to stem from this. It does not feel like it belongs in New Eden. The permanent BPO's for dropsuits go against core New Eden principals. The locking of weapons down particular progression paths also feels wrong.
That might not be reason enough to change what you guys have been working on, but I think its enough to warrant a second look and see if you can't address some of the concerns.
