Probably because you were an innocent nooby.
The more skilled you become with a game, the more you push the mechanics to the max, the faster the "magic" will be gone, that feeling of wonder that some games have. (Not all, some)
I can definitely say that DUST had that for me, I joined waaaay back in the closed beta.

I remember losing my first proto suit in chromosome and thinking "Bloody hell that was 250k" now its like "Well that's a mild inconvenience"

I know a guy called Julio Mcgee, he could dance around 5 guys all day and still kill them because hit detection was such crap back in chrome. After seeing that a couple of times I started calling him Julio The Immortal.
I also remember M/Kb support being half decent and people always asking how I got the squad orders out so fast.
Can't say I'm all that surprised.

I remember my first ADV Logi fit in Chromosone and thinking wow that guy died quick and then losing my fully fitted ADV logi and thinking wow that was expensive.
