While a Console and PC player, I've always preferred to play my FPS on Consoles for one simple reason.
FPS players on PC cheat. And they cheat a lot.
Please don't try and say they don't because the arms race for aim-bots and anti-botting in PC gaming is an industry of itself.
With this in mind, has the team started putting together some ideas as to how deal with the dirty cheating scumbags when they show up? (I think it's coming through just how passionate I am about this potential problem)
What preventative actions are you likely to take?
What levels of punishment for infringement are being considered?
Will you have the balls to permanently ban recidivist players and any linked accounts they might have in Eve and Valkyrie. (can't play by the rules in one of our games means you can't play any of them)
If I were in charge I'd have a three strikes and your out policy with the permaban of your PC's MAC address and any accounts associated with it.
Harsh but that is my position. Best to deal with this now before it becomes a problem than wasting time after it does.

As someone who started off his gaming life with Counter-Strike 1.6... I comepletely and absolutely agree and wish to know the answers to your questions.
Just to point out, we will be set up on tranquility, which is one server as opposed to the multiple servers on CS. So aim-botters will be easier to find in Legion than CS as they won't be spread out amongst infinite servers.

What's stopping me from creating a throw away account in a F2P game? IP ban?

The inability to transfer any ISK generated in that account and the return of any transfer already done before cheating was discovered.
Happens in Eve already.

Bots and cheats happen in World of Warcraft when the game is 40 dollars for all the current expansions and 15 bucks every 30 days after the first. It happens in Counter-Strike and TF2 when it can result in a ban for all VAC protected games. It will happen in Legion where you just need a burner account. The problem isn't so much catching people. A good anti-cheat program can catch people fairly easily, though the arms race does exist. The problem is some jerk does this on a completely separate account made with a fresh e-mail. Even if they are banned within 12 hours, you barely slowed them down. They do it again. If they do it with their real account, the ban would hurt. A fresh faced noobie with wall hacks is not afraid of a ban.
1. IP ban can be got around with a simple Google search. 2. Requiring a credit card to enable an account could work, just so they have your name on file. If they catch you cheating with a Legion account, they can ban every account under your name. The problem is that a free to play games work best when they don't want your credit card at the start. They wait, do a promotion, show you some cool stuff, and then ask only when you want to buy. Requiring at the start limits initial growth. Also: "My 11 year old son used my credit card to start an account. He cheated on his account and now mine and his are banned." 3. Give a unique ID for the install and punish accounts that are played on the unique ID launcher. This has the same problem of the "11 year old cheater" and can be got around with various tactics.
Cure is easy in this case. Catch them, throw them out. Develop ways of these kind of cheats quickly. The problem is prevention with any kind of hack or bot.
I don't think it will be as widespread of a problem as people believe it to be. I have seen cheaters and hackers in various FPS before but not as often as people say. I have ran into far, far more lag-switchers on console FPS than I have bonafide hackers in PC FPS but that is just my experience.

Personally.. I'd like to see a one-strike policy on hacking with a credit card ban myself.
There should be zero tolerance for cheating, especially in a free to play game. |

And console players dont cheat....
While I am sure people on PC will try to cheat, the whole time I played dust there were cheats. Infamous with their cloaking cheats / glitches, modded controllers etc...
People go on like cheating on PC is like this untameable monster. In all the time I played BF2, BFBC2, BF3 and now BF4 I personally have never seen a cheater.... this doesn't mean that there was not anyone cheating - I'm just trying to point out that it is rare.
Still please put in measures to deal with cheaters. |

Three strikes?! No.
One strike. You cheat, you get permanently banned, your char will be biomassed. Period.
Only if the cheaters lose all of their progress everytime they try cheating might keep them away - maybe. Especially in a F2P game where people can create as many accounts as they wish.
I am all for tolerance, but not towards cheaters. They don't need a second chance. |

I found plenty of lag switchers in halo matchmaking.
In all seriousness, CCP will likely do on legion how they do in Eve Online as they have 11 years experience dealing with mining bots, mission bots, market bots and even hauler bots. They can even trace multiple accounts tied to rmt rings and permaban them.
On Twitter: @HilmarVeigar #greenlightlegion #dust514 players are waiting.
