After watching everything that has been going on, I was thinking, 'Should I play?'
I'm looking for something to do at the moment and thought hopping on Dust sounded fun... But is it worth it? I'm sure most people play games for a reason - a future. Sure some people hop on a game play for 10 minutes and don't care... But a lot of us play for a promise of development and innovations. I've played Eve for about 5 years now, and what has kept me going at times when I question why I play and if I should continue playing is the promise of more updates and new opportunity.
I kind of came to a halt with Dust. It's releases and updates were disappointing, and after playing real FPS I found it hard to play Dust. Then Fanfest 2014 comes along and completely shatters my hopes for Dust. Sure, I didn't play it a lot. I have a character collecting SP with the thought of 'CCP will make it better and fix it, and it will be a good FPS, it'll just take time' but now I am seriously doubting it.
CCP, based on their history, knows what they are doing. Eve was very shaky in it's development and people didn't give it a chance. It had a promising future, despite initial problems, and now look at it! It's one of the oldest most successful games out their, and it continues to climb. Why? Because CCP is busting their butt's working and keeping it going, following on their promises and making it a game that ranks amongst the best.
But Dust feels different, at least the console game does. So what are your thoughts? Do I continue to invest time into it? Luckily I didn't invest a penny into it because it wasn't worth it, and for fear of something like this. Do I log on, try to enjoy the below average FPS gameplay hoping it will be improved? Do I gather money and SP now to give me an edge when the game is improved and enjoyable?
I have no intentions of playing it on the PC!

Its going to be hard to justify continued support for dust 514 if everyone drops off its highly possible to have legion and dust 514 still running a year from now even if the numbers allow for it.

To be fair IWS, most people have been playing DUST because of what CCP has promised it would be. The big, epic sprawling FPS set in New Eden. CCP announced that they can't do it on the PS3, which is fine. Because of this, I either foresee people moving from DUST to Legion or just stopping DUST at all.
Do you honestly think that DUST 514 will continue to thrive once Legion is out? It seems like a clear point to 'jump from a sinking ship' so to speak. With online FPS, it is a vicious cycle of low player numbers: "Ugh, there aren't many different people to shoot. I'm not going to play this game" which just adds to the problem and it continues until the game is pulled.
Cheers.

And to the OP: if you are not having fun with the game as it currently is and do not intend to play Legion, I would say don't play.
If you are having fun and don't care that the game will more than likely be gone within 18 months, probably sooner, then I say play away! You won't have gained anything but would have enjoyed the game, which is exactly the same as if you played Skyim, TF2, or went down to a petting zoo and played with the animals.
If you aren't having much fun but plan to play Legion, it is a toss up. My play time has decreased substantially; I didn't even play at all last week during the event. I am not having as much fun with the game as I used to for the last while but I do plan to play Legion so I am hopeful my advancement means something. If that is your camp, I would say you have to decide for yourself.

Cheers. dust is a glorified ad for EVE and will also be for legion. if someone downloads dust for free, and then becomes interested in EVE and/or Legion, CCP profits. dust has always been a fancy ad for EVE, they will leave it up for that reason. the beauty of it is nothing in dust is getting nerfed moar any time soon. |

It's not about me asking for permission, I'm asking if it's worth it. Is it worth the time and effort to play a game that isn't as fun as the other FPS games with the hopes that my work now will give me more opportunity to play and have fun once the game is better. |

i think most of us are just tired from being lied to by CCP. some leave some stay, its hard to trust CCP after the legion fanfest.
thanks to CCP our corp activity has dropped from having an average of 20+ members online to about 5-8 members online. most of us are planning to migrate to other games like Planetside 2 or H1Z1 (when it comes out) where all our members can form up again and play together. but we shall see, IF legion makes it and IF it doesnt require an expensive PC to play it then maybe our corp will stay and play legion.
my brothers and sisters i salute you O7
