Not only are these systems tried and true, they work well in open-world gameplay and would provide continuity with EVE Online. Additionally, EVE: Legion players that decide to start playing EVE Online, or vice versa, will start off with relevant knowledge; they won't have to learn two different systems to experience two sides of a single universe.
This would greatly benefit everyone involved, especially with the "EVE: United" concept showed at Fanfest.

That, and any skills could be used with the same character, ala EVE United.
Skills could be linked, so your AB skill in EVE can make your Valkyrie fighter have a longer boost, or your Dropship get across the (hopefully) big maps to Objective C, And the like.
Making it so One skill does something in all three games (If the games get linked like that) is the ultimate cool factor IMO (next to the whole EVE Thing)
Because you wanted to be something you're not.

Time-based progression in an FPS?
I honestly don't see how that could work for anyone that doesn't already play EVE, and even as someone who's played EVE for a while, the idea of waiting days or weeks while I passively train a new asset seems like a bit of a stretch.

But in essence we already passively train in DUST. The points accumulate and then we disperse them as we see fit.
I'm not an EVE player, although I gave it a whirl for a while and I think the EVE skill architecture is a great idea for Legion.

time based progression in a free to play game though? I don't think it would work that well. You could just make 1000 alts and train anything you want within a month or two.
In EVE it works because of the subscription model.. you are essentially paying for SP if you think about it. $15 per month buys you 1700-2500 SP per hour (depending on your remap). In Dust, for example, it wouldn't make sense. In a free to play game you must design your progression system around active time played, so that you can create a mechanic where completely free players can achieve the same as monetizing players, just over a longer period of played time.
This is the fundamental reason why we cannot have a fully passive SP system, simply because its not at all conducive to the free to play monetization model. |

I agree that the Eve system of progression is tried and true and is something Eve, Legion, and Valkyrie players will already understand.

so for legion to give players who will try EVE online and Actual idea of what the factions are like.
Amarr; Armor resistance tank style makes laser weapons on the right suits never overheat and do more damage, armor repair bonus to logistics, opposite module slot configuration of the Minmatar, opposite shield and armor HP of the Caldari.
Caldari; Shield resistance tank style, long range fighting type bonuses, shield repairing bonuses to logistics, opposite module slot configuration of the Gallente, opposite shield and armor HP of the Amarr.
Gallente; Armor repairing tank style, Close range fighting type bonuses, Armor repairing bonuses to logistics, opposite module slot configuration of the Caldari, Semi balanced shield and armor values with slightly more armor then shields.
Minmatar; Shield recovery/speed tank style, good with projectile weapons, Shield repairing bonuses to logistics. opposite module slot configuration of the Amarr, Semi balanced shield and armor values with slightly more shields then shields.
I would really like it if the weaponry skill tree and turret operation was made in the image of the Gunnery skill tree doing so would improve the new player experience, It would be awesome if Legion launched with all the turrets and Vehicles in the game not just the Gallente and Caldari.
I don't even know why I bother.
