We were told that there'd be multiple battles happening on a planet at the same time and it'd be possible to traverse the distance between (with ships or whatever) and fight on the various fronts. You arrive on a planet to do X, most of the cases we hear about is salvage, but that idea of just kicking around for no purpose--or a purpose you create yourself--is the quintessence of a sandbox.
