What are the major hurdles for CCP in building Legion for more platforms than just Windows?

Regardless of your preference, Linux is way too rare to make it only for Linux. Windows is the default, followed by MAC. |

What are the major hurdles stopping you from living in France, or Japan, or wherever. In simple terms, you'd need to learn a new language, a new way to interact with your surroundings.
It's the same basic principle, CCP would need to make versions of Legion that interacts their surroundings in a variety of different ways, some more complicated and 'foreign' than others - and there's no guarantee that the game would be suited to them.
Yes, a (very) over simplified analogy, but it gets the point across - it's a lot of extra dev time, and results in more and unique bugs in the ported versions. This goes double for when you're still making the game rather than simply adding to it. |

Even though I already have dust on my PS4, I would prefer that its the nonphysical kind.

People misconstrue things they read on the internet in the most ridiculous ways. Nothing in my post implied that I wanted it exclusively on Linux. I was asking for it to be supported for Linux in addition to Windows and MAC.

I don't expect it at all. I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'll need to buy Windows eventually to be able to play Legion.

Ryder Azorria wrote:Point! I get your point and understand it all to well having been using Linux and Mac (Windows to for that matter) for very long time. Since UE3 runs on more platforms than just Windows I am curious to why CCP is having such a difficult time building for an other system.
Even more so since the PS3 isn't running any kind of DirectX which means that, baring your fancy new DX11 specifics, rendering isn't what is stopping it.

Besides if they are able to (eventually) build it on the PS4 it makes even less sense as to why they would be unable to build it for Mac OS X or Steam OS.

Well considering that EVE online has MAC client I'd be surprised if Legion didn't have that too...

Difference is they wouldn't have to run Legion on top of any emulation layers.

I'll give you guys in CCP a really good reason to consider a Steam OS version; you will be lowering the entry barrier for people either needing to upgrade their computer or buy a new one by the cost of a windows license. (80~100 Gé¼ / -ú)

Let them finish one version first. Then you can worry about the others.

Your post didn't say that at all. You were bashing Windows, as many Linux lovers do, and given you didn't actually state something that said "Linux too", you shouldn't be surprised when people rely given the normal internet ranting of Linux users. |
