If you were involved in marketing a game that's free on the surface, but makes money from people buying in-game content, and that game was scheduled to move to a new system that's not compatible with the hardware people are playing on, would you withold the information that the game is changing platforms while having sales on items that are intended to have lasting effects on your character beyond the lifespan of the current version of the game? |

I would. If I never wanted those customers to buy anything or trust me ever again.

Well for one I wouldn't put my game on life support unless the project was actually approved, and then I would inform the playerbase at least 1 month after the decision is made (to make sure that the project is/will go along smoothly).

First the question cannot be answered in a informative matter because we are judging from a position that includes conflicting interests.
Therefore, the answer will not be true because none of us are running a sizeable development company to understand the nuances of dealing with 1000s of customers and our decisions would be based upon a recent events.
Of course everyone would say the answer that would be expected that carries a direct relationship to our feelings.
There's a major difference between telling someone one thing and not making the mark but tried to do so compared to knowing from the very start the mark would never be made and still persist with the project planning.
