I haven't been catching up with the Chronicles lately which you can find in the link below, but if I understand it correctly the Amarr Empire fears the capsuleers being able to construct their own stargates so they send in their Imperial Fleet to stop these privateers from finishing construction. In the end, the capsuleers won despite the losses they suffered in the attack as the gate finally opened.
These Drekar Alliance, an alliance of corporations consisting of privateers from all walks of life, are the ones defending their own independence and pursuit of wealth from the four empires even if it means breaking every rule in the book. Since the alliance consists of a mix of every race out there, one wouldn't be surprised to see Minmatar, Gallente, Caldari, and Amarrian ships fighting against the Amarr Imperial Fleet.

The future vision portrayed by the trailer is what's important, not the cinematics.

Quite simply, an eve player corp has found a way to create a super large stargate possibly able to go beyond the known EVE cluster. (maybe even back to earth?)
Anyway, the eve gate, which is bigger than this one but still have a very close affiliation to the Amar's religion.
Whats most likely is that they feel that creating anything even similar to the EVE gate is an affront to their religion seeing as the old one was destroyed. so they deployed a massive attack force to attempt to destroy the gate.
Clearly this didn't happen... whatever happens next is sometime in the future.

In Eve it is like moving from system to system by stargates. There GOD (CCP) given and can not be destroyed. Kind of like a map design. But the plans of CCP is to make them like Far Away TM ... destructable and constructable by players. So this is manyly about EVE Player building a Gate. All thos fance ships fighting agains the Amarr. And all the vikings ships flying over the place. Mercs invading ships and stuff. Just a cinematic trailer. Not how its really working. Its more how we want to imagine it to work.
Main points are: - constructing new gate (explaination in text above) - Valkyries Merc and Pilotes in Trailer - epic big battle influencing each other by the diffrente games
at last. just utopic.

Clearly this didn't happen... whatever happens next is sometime in the future. It is also CCP's way of continuing the thread of the capsuleers (the players) are getting so powerful that they are starting to threaten the State (o7), Federation, Republic, and Empire. Amarr could be using their religion as an excuse to take out the capsuleers who are working on a new gate as this would draw power from them; same shtick the Holy Roman Empire and other religious countries did. "Jerusalem is great for trade. Let's say we need to take the Holy Lands" type of stuff.
Think of it this way. 75 Titans were lost in Titanomachy that is now EVE lore. Compare that the State losing the Leviathan over Caldari Prime that resulted in Heth forcing someone to commit ritualistic suicide (as Mark726 so perfectly said: "The Caldari are a cheery bunch") and basically resulted in huge upheaval for the Caldari. That Leviathan had thousands of soldiers to man in it, to keep it clean, to keep the weapons ready, all that basic stuff. A capsuleer in a Leviathan can do all of that with one person. Capsuleers are free agents that can get access to weapons technology that rivals that of the Empires. Continuing with the "if this were all real" shtick, if FCON (the winners of the Titanomachy fight) or any other BIG Alliance were to combine their forces they could potentially destroy one of the four Empires.
My guess is CCP is starting to push more down that line: "Officials in the Caldari State have begun to push for additions to the Caldari Navy. One unnamed official stated, quote 'we have reach a critical moment. Large coalitions of capsuleers are quickly becoming the greatest threat to the continued existence of our State. There are more capsuleers and they have access to far greater technology than the Guristas; not seeing them as a threat sooner was an act of extreme shortsightedness.' unquote. Chilling words for within the State. Our next story: Quafe, used to fight Derj's Disease?"
And as Jenza said, the trailer itself is something that hasn't happened yet. You can tell because, seriously, who the HELL uses a Phoenix? (Caldari Dreadnaught that is considered horrible because the weapons they can use are GARBAGE)

For ships as big as Titans, thousands of people still man it, just that it takes less than without a capsuleer.
As far as the empires thing, 75 titans is NOTHING, they have MUCH bigger fleets, which is why they don't care about us capsuleers playing war, because if we ever attempt to fight them, they can crush us like bugs.
I'm sorry but CCP is really breaking their own lore, I mean for fucks sake CONCORD regulates capsuleer activity, the whole "mind transfer" thing doesn't happen without CONCORD's network, and they can just shut it all down. Not to mention that they have technology from the Jovians.
A CONCORD battlecruiser can destroy a titan in a single shot. I'm serious.

Please refer to it as the batte of B-R like the rest of us who participated in some way in the fight, and secondly, FCON did not win the fight. CFC/RUS won the battle.

Only frigates are manned only by the capuleer.

Ok just to clear up a few points because some of you guys are getting it wrong:
1) CFC/RUS won the battle of BR. Saying it was FCON is laughable.
2) It is a CONCORD Battleship NOT a Battlecruiser (minor annoyance sorry)
3) On the test server, sometimes they seed Supers and Titans in stations for testing purposes. I took a Titan in Elonaya station and tested it. CONCORD one shots you once the Battleship unloads on you. Yes it is immersion breaking but that's the way it is (CCP could do it much more elegantly IMO) |

Go to CCP's channel, then watch all of their trailers, then play eve and be seriously disappointed and bored. Seriously, you want PvP? Be prepared for HOURS of roaming.
There is no such thing as a 20 minutes play session of Eve, it is either hours or nothing.

Yes it is immersion breaking but that's the way it is (CCP could do it much more elegantly IMO) Huh, read on the EVE forums that it's a battlecruiser.

I have no clue where to begin with the EVE lore. I just know pieces, here and there. Just read the stuff on the website. Look at the EVElopedia.
The EVE Chronicles, right? I was looking for something like EVE Story Pt. 1, Pt.2 and so forth. LOL I see so much I'm not sure where to begin so I can get a clear perception of what happened when the EVE gate closed right up to current events

The books are on Amazon. Templar One and Empyrean Age were the better of the three. Was not impressed with The Burning Life, although it is perhaps the most "cannon correct" of the EVE books. Gonzales' books are a bit more engaging to me and thankfully glosses over some of the EVE lore that needs to be retconned because it is bad SF.
To be honest, this DUST chronicle is one of the best I have read out of all of the stuff CCP has put out. It describes an interesting bit of lore int he chronicles about the Sleepers, the DUST implants, and the Other that is in the Ammar Empress' head.
