they wanted to release the game, and ALL of the dust community said the game wasn't ready? yea... idk CCP, most of have played enough "finished" products in our lives to know when a game isn't finished, or even close to finished, or even functional.
WE may not all be game designers or programmer but we do know what a finished product looks and feels like, so the next time we tell you that your game isn't ready for release, you should listen.
Dust 514 never left beta as far as I'm concerned, and when you look at it like that, all the issues and problems we had make more sense. |

i was thinking the same thing. the game was rushed out the door by pc devs who had little to no experience working with consoles |

idk how much can be blamed on any one employee in particular... anyone remember CCP Blam! ??? that dev single handedly ruined vehicles in dust. thats just one dev, im sure others had a hand in "developing" dust.
all im saying is that at no point has dust ever felt anywhere near what a "shipped" product should look or feel like. whether CCP felt they where "ready" for release or not, the game wasnt ready.
btw... did anybody ever see the dust ad go public? i saw the ad but i never saw it publicly on tv or online. did CCP suddenly decide the game was in too embarrassing a state to advertise? |

Had less to do with experience with console players than experience with what the FPS shooter market creates. Should I be alone in assuming you own only a console or a PC? No. Should I also assume anyone who plays EvE has never played CoD, Battlefield, MAG or any other FPS title? No. There are countless of players here in Dust who have and still play a plethora of game genres.
Dust is at its heart a FPS game that uses mmo dynamics in game progression. Console player or PC player, you will be judged by the criteria of a FPS game and NOT an mmo; I can get my blueprints in EvE and make "stuff" or I can just mine my whole time. If there's a battle there's only game dilation but no game code that says "you MUST play 12 vs 12" or "5 on 5". You see, it's those peculiarities that make Dust a different beast than EvE. On EvE game balance was a bit more difficult to determine; CCP had overall control of the outcome of weapons but players could simply undo advantages with sheer numbers.
Dust relies more uniquely on overall tech balancing than numbers and alliances; if you have a bunch of vets versus a whole squad of new players you get protostomped. You can do the same thing on EvE but at least whoever does the stomping has to dish out something; you might loose a ship to Concord because it's 1.0 sec space or loose out on ISK because you made a bounty. That's it; its uniquely different in EvE but Dust is straightforward.
PC gamers, to which I include myself into, don't really see eye-to-eye with gamers on the console. That's fine really, that's good because different perspectives can really benefit from creating and progressing a game. The problem is how that input is recieved, how it's utilized and how much players want their game to be a "niche" market.
For EvE players you may hate WoW but respect EQ, for example. WoW is a clone of EQ for all intents and purposes and I'm fully aware of the animosity of the two player bases. But that's the thing, EvE is not something that you can simply pull off each and every time; they needed luck, time and had released EvE on a market not as overtly saturated with MMO's. WoW gets the basic principles correct and understood the need for a game polished enough to not **** people off with a level of bugs/glitches that you can tolerate.
At the core of the problem that I think players on both spectrum are only hitting the tip of is the fact that Legion is itself a reflection of Dust; if you have to make a game successful by catering to a smaller market you can do that and it's CCP's choice. But you have to also take into account what they learned and demonstrated with Dust, thus far, isn't promising and even announcing Legion doesn't make this an afterthought either. Remember something called Windows 8 where consumers complained it was irritating and that they sacrificed functionality for a flashy OS?
Dust = Windows Vista *** Legion = Windows 8 Alpha *** EvE = Windows 7
