With all this talk of EVE legion and how "it's a great advantage to have it on PC" I've found that a lot of people are forgetting that Dust began on PC and was moved to PS3 only for things to go backwards to PC again. With that in mind:
What is the likelyhood that Legion will see PS4?
What is the likelyhood that it will stay there?
It might be nice to get some more info on why the old PC version was shut down.
As a side note, didn't CCP want Dust on PS3 so that it wasn't in direct competition with EVE for players? |

Last question first - answer is basically no. CCP opted for PS3 to open a new market among console gamers. They seem be admitting now that they failed at this, so they are going to release Legion on PC with the market that they are more familiar with.
CCP has also said that they might look at PS4 when the PC version is "healthy". No odds on what will happen - this is super early in development.

I'd like to add a question to this. What have people seen from CCP lately that makes them believe that CCP can pull it off this time? They showed some prototype work at fanfest that was new "merc quarters" followed by a half dozen guys playing a fancier looking version of a map that we already have. I didn't watch the progression presentation because I was thoroughly disgusted with CCP, but did they show merged economies there or even 64 on 64 battles? Amarr and Minmatar vehicles?
All CCP has done is say, well we failed with a console, but we can totally pull this off on PC!
With WoD they were working with an established, leveling system, lore, worlds. All they had to do is translate everything into a working game, but they couldn't get that done on PC.
So really all they have given us is more promises and visions and a look at the same **** only with better graphics. Well if that is enough for the Legion crowd, you deserve whatever you get.

CCP won't say whether or not legion will see a PS4 port simply because it's up to Sony.
I'm going to go ahead and say no on that last question. DUST 514 wouldn't have competed with EVE: Online because they are two different genres that cater to two different playerbases.
Saying DUST 514 would be in direct competition with EVE: Online is like saying XBOX One/Wii U/PS4 is in direct competition with Android OS, WP8, and iOS.

What's the likelyhood they're going to make the exact same mistakes they did with Dust 514? Not everything wrong with this game was due to PS3 limitations.
Call 1-800-345-SONY, press 2, then 2 again to get your money back if you bought AUR in the past 90 days.

I have a theory. Two words. Star Citizen. If you watch this year's CCP Presents from fanfest you will see that they have changed directions. They've put the days of branching out behind them. THe new idea is that you will some day be able to use 1 character in all three EVE games.
Say you want to protostomp in your Amarr laser tank for an hour after work, no problem. But then your wife is out of town and you want to sit around all weekend drinking beer and watching your guns slowly cycle in 10% time dilation then you can hop in a capsule and spend 10 hours doing that.
That the legion reveal was so bungled makes a lot more sense in light of some more direct competition to EVE Online that is in the pipes for PC platform. Who knows what the corporate heads were thinking. But obviously it was about anything other than the existing Dust 514 community. Maybe they were thinking about any number of science fiction games set to release on PC in the decade or so and realized that maybe it made more sense to compete directly with those games, cut them off at the pass, rather than worry about cannibalizing their player base.
Then again, SWTOR was supposed to compete with EVE as a sci-fi MMO. Didn't really work out for Bioware. |
