I haven't actually made a thread specifically about this really, but yeah. Here we go.
At first I was like everyone else, I made a lot of rage threads and I was incredibly angry at CCP. And rightly so. This was delivered in an awful manner. With NO content being discussed for Dust in a keynote entitled 'Dust 514'. This news was also released at fanfest. This is not 'good' news. This is inevitable news that we didn't want to be told at fanfest. Would you tell your children there are no presents under the tree on christmas morning? It was a poor decision by whomever it was, and has caused us to lose a large portion of the Dust community already.
To be honest, I think we deserve an apology from Rouge, it just isn't good enough the way this has been handled. However, we are all complaining for one reason or another but the simple truth is that we're complaining because we love this game, right?
Everything we were ever promised (Old EP and co) was never delivered. The mechs, the jets, the sandbox, the PvE, the player market? It was never going to get here. Especially not on PS3. The PS3 as we all know does NOT have the capacity to make the game we want. Dust was dying anyway, the only way to immortalise it was to switch it onto a PC.
Why not announce PS4 release right away? Because it could end up being the same catastrophe as the ps3. CCP could spend so long developing everything it'd take them to the end of the PS4's life to get it right. The PC is a guarantee that the game can keep being developed without the threat of being entombed in a dead console. The game we love can only survive this way.
We were losing more players each day anyway. If it wasn't by CCP's hand, the game would have died anyway, and there would be nothing. At least this is something. For everyone complaining about not being able to handle Legion on their PC? I wholeheartedly sympathise. I myself may not be able to run it, and that's a concern, but it's something we have to grow up and realise. On the plus side, we have a long time before it releases. A long time to save up for a PC, the parts to upgrade, or even a PS4 (And just hope it'll transfer).
TL;DR: A lot of things were done very wrong by CCP in this announcement and I do believe Rouge needs to be a man about it, and stop waffling like an anxious politician. However, the decision to move this to PC was never going to be an easy one. There were always going to be casualties and it's going to be a hard transition. But, life isn't fair, essentially we have to HTFU.

Even if you make the case that Dust needed to be on PC to survive, that still means CCP f*cked us all over.
We don't need to HTFU. We need to start supporting developers that don't pull these kinds of stunts on their loyal player base.

Also, they will transfer your stuff should you decide to go to PC.

I think the future of the PS3 game depended on having a much larger number of concurrent users. We're probably a profitable crew of players, but not the cash cow AAA shooter jackpot.

I've never been angry that CCP is moving dust to PC I'd like a PS4 port, but that is just because I don't have a rig. I'm angry because they lied to us for a solid year knowing that they couldn't deliver. I consistently made the statement that the devs wanted to deliver on their promises but time didn't permit. in reality they knew they couldn't deliver and said they could all the same. this is Enron level **** we're talking here.

Not everybody can afford a gaming pc. Not only that but some of us, like myself, have no experience with fps on a pc.

Before Dust I had Zero experience with non-local multiplayer ANYTHING on console, I bought a ps3 mainly for Dust but discovered the Soul's games and other good stuff, It took me months to get good at fps with a controller :)
You can get a pretty nice PC gaming rig for the same price as a ps4, There really is no way around the PC for a gamer (imho) but I like having consoles aswell and will most likely be getting a ps4 at some point for the exclusives, local multiplayer and some games that are simply better suited for console. |

I have a decent PC, and trust me - you're not missing out. Only thing that's better is the GR4PH1X.
Other than that, I feel more comfortable on a console when it comes to games. |
