EVE has room to expand on it's current platform - Dust does not. It's that simple.
Seriously, why can't you accept that Dust just can't ever meet it's potential while stuck on the PS3? |

EVE is doing fine
DUST is trapped on dead end tech.
This move allows it to branch onto the PS4, faster, and with higher quality. It allows for a test server. It allows for CCP to develop on familiar ground.
Basically, quit being so butthurt.

It's a re-branding continuation of the same game. It's not the same thing.

Yeah, lets be honest here, Dust 514 doesn't exactly have a great reputation among the general gaming community - rebranding Legion and freeing it from the shadow it's little brother seems like a smart move.
Plus "EVE: Legion" ties in better with the one universe naming scheme CCP is going for now they have Valkyrie.
EDIT: Also, Legionnaire or Dust Bunny - which sounds cooler |

Seriously, why can't you accept that Dust just can't ever meet it's potential while stuck on the PS3? That would be fine if Legion was being advertised as a new build for DUST. But it isn't. It's a new game doing what DUST was meant to do.

Basically, quit being so butthurt. DUST isn't "trapped" though. The plan was always to move DUST to a next-gen platform, and more recently that had been stated to be PS4, then without telling anyone about the change, CCP spent SEVERAL MONTHS developing it on PC instead.
How exactly is porting to PC then maybe, no promises, but it's possible they'll conside making a PS4 version of a game that isn't DUST going to get DUST onto PS4 faster than actually developing DUST for PS4 would? And regardless of whether they're moving to PC or PS4, how does NOT moving DUST forwards and advertising a new game that's going to be what DUST was always meant to be qualify as moving DUST forward?
Godin Thekiller wrote:It's a re-branding continuation of the same game. It's not the same thing. It's been explicitly stated that it's a new game, not DUST. It's not a continuation of the same game until it's defined as such by the developers creating it. |

But I don't think the PS3 is the problem behind all this. It's the game engine platform.

Because they're blinded by some combination of Sony fanboyism and console fanboyism.

Yes, but what if they made a completely unexpected announcement at a keynote entitled EVE:keynote that their present development wasn't able to continue with the programming they had already done and needed to change engines or whatever to facilitate further development? In essence, a different game that wouldn't at the time of the presentation be able to transfer characters. Then, as an extra kick in the nuts, they rename it something else.

If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.

I'm confused. Is it a whole different game (which would be stupid), or just a huge update to the game itself? O_o

Nope, in 5 years we're all going to be wearing our computers on our wrists and playing Angry Birds and Candy Crush on Google Glass, and computers and consoles as we know them will be a distant memory!

Patrick57 wrote:I'm confused. Is it a whole different game (which would be stupid), or just a huge update to the game itself? O_o Officially, it's a new game that's taking over what DUST was meant to do, and some progress (no promises or commitments on how much) carrying over from the existing game. Many aspects of core gameplay are being changed coming into the new game, it's going to be have "sandbox" gameplay instead of the more directed "lobby shooter" experience provided by DUST.
Realistically, the promises being made for Legion aren't changes that were never meant to happen in DUST, they're just promising to rebuild in a way that actually supports the original plans. It SHOULD have been announced as the next major expansion, and there SHOULD have been plans to continue PROPER support for the existing build (including new content) while it's being developed, but instead, we're getting a lot of "no new content" and a lot of "maybe" and "I don't really know, but" and nothing solid. |

Actually that would make sense, it would give EVE multithreading. Your argument is invalid. |
