The DUST build which was on the Carbon engine was a good build, agreed? But the PS3 couldn't handle it. Some people say "give us that DUST" well with DUST on PC you can have that DUST.
I think there are 2 reasons why a lot of things in DUST haven't been improved to look better and run better,
1) console limitations
2) progress being (secretly) made on Legion
Then again some games have looked amazing on the PS3, I don't think the Unreal engine is a great engine for this game.
On PC the frame rate will (should) be a lot better, I've found that playing on PC is more smooth, playing games at 100-120 FPS with very little (network and input) lag feels very nice and makes for tense firefights.
A lot of DUST's problems should be sorted out by being produced on the PC, for me my connection is a lot more stable which means less hit detection and connection and lag issues. More powerful hardware means less framerate issues.
This is the only way DUST can progress, it will never be fully integrated with EVE unless on PC. They've already implemented a system whereby you can visit planets for missions, which is how it should be, which is how I remember Planetside 2's closed beta.
I read one person expressing a willingness to play EVE and EVE: Legion simultaneously, so whilst people who have bought a PS3 solely to play DUST have been shafted EVE players will at least I assume support Legion.
However it's the right decision at the wrong time, it's very unfair on people who have put a lot of money into this game although I have read about people claiming refunds?
Because DUST never improved much in the last year (I don't think it has improved vastly) that should tell you the game has always been in beta, but since it has been "released" it feels like a complete con to announce the game will be ditched, only making minor updates to matchmaking etc, which will be welcomed.
However does this mean there is no Uprising 1.9? this means that anything the devs said regarding 1.9 were lies, if someone can dig any up.
This is the reason for all of the vague and indirect, ambiguous responses from the developers regarding the introduction of certain things. So every time a dev has responded to a forum post regarding the player market or PvE with a vague "we can't say anything right now but when we have news we will keep you updated" is a lie.
it's because it's not being worked on but they want to make you feel like it is so you keep playing, if they keep the ploy going the game continues to make money. so dust will never have a player market? but if you want all the stuff promised years ago play our new game in a few years when it's ready and buy a gaming pc?
It's debatable whether or not the announcement was coincidental; a time where Legion was in a state they wanted to show it in; or as long as it could have possibly been delayed in order to run events and gain revenue from boosters.
TL;DR Right decision and direction but wrong time. if you want to know what playing DUST a la Carbon build if it had progressed up until now and are willing to beta test another product (which will guaranteed have micro-transactions in the closed beta) then Legion on PC may be for you. Most of the technical issues and sluggishness of DUST on PS3 will have been extinguished but Planetside 2 on PC in closed beta looked better and is coming to PS4 soon.
I will continue to play any game if it's free, if Legion transfers my SP (unallocated) and ISK/AUR or refunds AUR and perhaps if it has controller support then I'll still play it, my PS3 is getting old now although there's a backlog to last me years sitting behind me.
