This is what they currently showed us for what weapons will be unlocked in each "path" Keep in mind that even though a weapon is in one branch of the tree, you will still be able to fit any item on any suit as long as it has the slot for it.
For those that didn't see the fanfest stream, here's my text version of it: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2112884#post2112884
Scout -Nova Knives -Shotgun -Locus Grenade -Bolt Pistol -Flaylock Pistol
Assault -Swarm Launcher -Sniper Rifle -Assault Scrambler Rifle -Assault Rail Rifle
Sentinel -Forge Gun -HMG -Breach Bolt Pistol -Breach Ion Pistol
Logitsics -Mass Driver -Laser Rifle -Remote Explosives ______________________________________
Of the other weapons and variants (besides the assault variants, those will be under assault), where should the rest be placed?
I want the community's feedback before I make a more detailed version of this for CCP. I feel that their new role system will be much better for the NPE than the current skill trees we have now.

Holy crap, this "role system" is a terrible idea.
I hope CCP realizes that this sort of progression system is not the way to go.

I have expressed my concerns about the system and apparently they have something new in mind.
I don't know the details yet, but Aeon Amadi told me so.

Agreed. It's such an anti-EVE idea, it's almost funny.
That was one of the great things about DUST - grabbing a suit, putting whatever weapons and mods you wanted on it and going out to raise hell. This whole role thing is essentially CCP telling you how to play the game.

I love the customization dust currently has, the new 'role' system sounds awful

It's a lot better than you think. New players will skill into a base dropsuit (light, medium, heavy frame), then into a role (Assault, Logistics, Scout, Sentinel), then as experienced players into a race (Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar), and finally as veterans into a specialization (type 1, type 2)
Each role tree will cost very little to skill into to get the basics (thousands of sp, not millions; hours of gameplay, not months), and each node will not have a level system. This allows you to skill into what you want, rather than dumping 600k sp just for a certain specialization of weapon.
They also removed tiers from weapons and dropsuits and instead added more specializations and introduced meta as common, uncommon, and rare items (which will come from loot drops in Legion, and hopefully salvage in Dust 514)
A new player right now comes in and has no idea what weapons to skill into, and doesn't even know about certain weapon variations. They also don't know wwhat kinds of modules/weapons/equipment would be best for them to skill into for their playstyle.
The role system gives new players the information they need to make informed decisions about how to spend skill points without wasting their sp, AND helps them with fittings (i.e. the items you skill into within the role will give new players a better idea of what kinds of variations and playstyles they want to explore.
The role system is designed in a way that helps new players indirectly with skills and fittings, while still making it easy for veterans to pick and choose the items they want without wasting any sp into sp sinks. It's win win, except for the players who don't understand and are too stubborn to want to look into it.

I see where there going with it,
1. it's to make it easier for new players to understand the skill tree
2. Its also to support the genre they set it in mmofpsrpg. Key letters RPG
But I'm kinda on the fence about it.
I like the dropsuit progression that looks pretty good
I don't like how you have to progression in drop suits to unlock weapons
My opinion is SOME weapons should be locked to a dropsuit. Example:
Scout:snipers/nova knifes Logistics:AV main light weapons Assault:speciality rifles(eg: laser rifle and the ones to come) Heavy: heavy weapons
The rest should be interchangeable between each other(minus heavies)

If its just pretty training wheels for noobs, then it makes sense and its fine.
However, if I want to run a mass driver on my sentinel and mass driver is a logi weapon, i shouldn't have to progress down a logi tree to get to it first. Thats just silly. |
