CCP Rouge wrote:Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your feedback so far. I'd like to answer a few of your questions about DUST 514 and Project Legion directly given the feedback you gave me. I've picked these four points as they are coming up the most on the forums as well as in the live roundtable discussions here at Fanfest.
1) What happens to my character, skills and stuff?
If Project Legion becomes something more than a prototype, we will not leave our DUST 514 players behind. You would be able to bring your character name, applicable skills/inventory, and other elements of progression with you. We are still working on the details and we will have more to announce soon.
Pointing out the obvious
First Off this was the smoking gun of the whole presentation and should have been said there. You would, not have only avoided the whole sh*t storm that the **Legion Keynote** created but, would have created a whole lot of excitement for the product. This product could have also been, if legally possible, sold as an upgrade to the DUST universe making it something the dust community could look forward to instead of dreading it's existence knowing the game they love is going to be replaced by it.
Feedback
Apart from that, There is a key word in the above statement that I do not think the community will be happy with. Applicable should not only be skillpoints attributed to the transferred character. The applicable skills should be put directly into the skill tree and any other skillpoints left over should be put into the the SP POOL for the player to distribute as he sees fit A.K.A. "redistributable"
Removal of learning skills in EvE online
Quote: ALL LEARNING SKILLS WILL DISAPPEAR
We're not kidding. In your head, in your hangar or in your anything else, they're gone. Vamoosh. Deleted. Sent to the big recycle bin in the sky. Etc etc.
All skillpoints invested in learning skills will be reimbursed, including all the fiddly corner cases. If you have 2,012,692 SP in learning, you will find yourself down those skills, but with 2,012,692 skillpoints to redistribute.
Reasoning behind the feedback
By only passing the applicable skillpoints there is a possibility that a character that has 40 million skillpoints only be allotted 20 to the applicable skills while a character with 20 million skillpoints might have the whole 20 million transfered to the new character. This scenario would not only be unfair but arbitrary. It can also be exploitable by players with insight, read CPM and their friends, that can train in advanced for this change with huge benefits.
CCP Rouge wrote:2) Are you completely abandoning DUST dev?
No. Without promising too much, we are actively working on stuff like balancing, Planetary Conquest, matchmaking, the in-game economy, and more. And of course we continue to work with the CPM to identify ways to improve the game.
Feedback
I understand that the words underlined are key to this statement. If the brunt of the workforce is dedicated towards legion, Dust 514 will not get the attention it needs to survive the time it has left. The game still has some balancing issues that should be addressed and can be addressed swiftly before continuing since most of them are number crunching and balance issues that have nothing to do with writing large extents of code. This is as simple as listening to the community and making the damage/distance/accuracy changes in SMALL PERCENTAGES ( read 3% or 5% per pass ). Apart from this dust is in a good place.
THE OBVIOUS
The one thing I will never forgive CCP for is not fixing my plasma cannon at least a Month before the server closes
CCP Rouge wrote:3) Is Project Legion going to have a PS4 version? Or something for consoles?
It is still far too early to discuss platform expansion, as like you saw we are still only working on the PC prototype at this time. But the PC architecture gives us the opportunity to grow once we have a great PC product at hand. For now, though, PlayStation 4 is not something we are working on.
I believe that making Legion for consoles would have a detrimental effect towards its development. Not only does a lot of constraints come into play; take dust as an example but , it also creates a time consuming activity which is finding how to make the game work all over again without any gain in actual content.
that being said I have heard, and someone can correct me if I am wrong, that PS4 and the XBOX One's architecture is a lot more like a pc than those of previous consoles.
CCP Rouge wrote:4) When are you going to give us more concrete information on Legion?
Again, Project Legion is still in an early stage of development but the whole idea behind giving a sneak peek at Fanfest is to get early feedback - and I really want to keep this discussion going, show you progress through dev blogs and such and listen to what you have to say.
Please post your feedback and questions in this thread - and let's keep this conversation going. The team and I will be reading this thread, and I will respond as soon as I can.
CCP Rouge
Last but not least; while I was initially very mad, I am slowly coming into acceptance of this news. But i would also like to pose a warning to CCP. If the reason behind developing legion is because Dust cannot fulfill the vision you guys had in mind, it is in CCPS best interest to make this product available as soon as possible. This will not only achieve better feedback but will get balance issues and bugs detected . I would even go as far as to suggest an Alpha version and early access for dust players

Here it is for me:
CCP lied to all of us when Rouge talked about a completely different product during the DUST 514 keynote and ran off without answering questions. I have more faith in Bernie Maddof than I do with CCP right now.

Faith or not, and believe me it has been called into question by many, we must accept the hard truth, dust is not going to be top priority anymore. They have a different angle to explore and we as the community must push towards preserving our hard work...
All we have left to do is try to salvage whatever we can, even if you can't o it on PC, your hard work should be preserved in the EvE universe.

I pretty much agree with this. I actually think Legion is really good news, its exciting and something to look forward to. It was just announced in a really bad way and the lack of info on moving progression across was a disaster. I know its a prototype, I know CCP have idea what the final SP / isk values and systems will be like, but they needed to say at the start of the keynote what they've said since in posts and at CCP presents. |

Here is the truth.
The Past:
CCP lied for 3 years about how great dust was going to be(fake gameplay, trailers, etc..), then they released a broken game and gave up after 2 more years.
The Future:
CCP is lying to us about how great dust Legion is going to be (fake gameplay, trailers, etc...), and then they will release a broken game and give up afterwards.
Trust me, there is no game company in the world (yes including Will Wright) that overpromises as consistently and under delivers as spectacularly as CCP. I was a fool for thinking a relationship with Sony and a closed platform might change that.

The players can't salvage anything that CCP doesn't want to salvage. I know this is going to sound all melodramatic but I say this from a calm mind: CCP doesn't care, and I don't think ever has cared, about their DUST 514 customers. I sincerely hope that the money I put into the game (it is 300 bucks or so) and time (1,000+ hours) isn't just set on fire.
I am not mad at Project Legion. In fact, I want to be happy with it. I was hoping for a PC port of DUST 514 because it would mean that EVERY EVE player would at least try it which means more people to play with and, well, CCP doesn't know as much about consoles as they do about PC. This would be good, happy new if it weren't delivered terribly. Imagine if you and your wife were trying to have a child but it just wasn't working out. Then one night a homeless burglar breaks into your house, wakes you up by peeing on your head, and shouts "you're gonna be a daddy!"
CCP is the homeless burglar peeing on my head and DUST 514 on the PC (which isn't the case; they are separate games) is the news that I am getting a bundle of joy.
Edit: And you are absolutely, 100% correct about the "applicable" SP thing. If my 33 million SP only equates to 10 million because "I put my SP in the wrong spot" I am going to be unhappy. Of course, Legion has all BPO dropsuits so my Raven, Sever, and Dren suits might as well be burning in said homeless burglar's oil drum.

After the initial rage and then sadness of watching the keynote for a game that didn't even properly exist, I've been pondering whether this decision -that is, the decision to strip out the Grand Scope from Dust and transfer it to Legion- is actually good for Dust in the mid-term. And in truth, I think it is. For all the talk of the promise of a Dust, I enjoyed this game primarily as an inventive, if madly frustrating, sci-fi lobby shooter. It was the individual moments that playing this game could create that brought me back to it time after time, and not the idea that it could, in time, go bigger, grander in scale. I really enjoyed the intensity that it could deliver.
So, what next? Clearly, we now have a very short shelf life and a reduced development team to look after our broken toy. My wish is that PC and Public Contracts are simply stripped out of the game wholesale; let Legion accommodate the isk grinding and planet-conquering aspects of a dust, because it WILL do them much, much better. What a Dust is left with is Faction Warfare, a great idea poorly executed. Go back to it, do it right, and make Dust a tight, focused team-based fps thst still retains a short yet strong link to the EvE universe. Kind of like a Shadow Run but with laser beams.
I think we can survive and thrive to an exceptable degree if we can get this game to do one thing exceptionally well that is fun for all.
