Shanghai has been hemorrhaging money since development of DUST began.
DUST grossed $800k according to the books made public.
While costing 2.5 million for everything if I read it right.

thats because shanghai has no idea what theyre doing lol.
a bunch of guys from a country thats never had a ps3 and ccp expected them to be able to optimize the game with 0 experience,
they should have poached guys from western devs that have 8 years experience on ps3.

The true value of Dust 514 lies in the data they've accrued and the engine is much more complete due to community input. The microtransactions merely made the Legion Beta known as Dust 514 a less costly venture.

Compare it to Call of Duty if you will, you get a new game every year plus DLC which you have to buy to get the complete experience(about $120 - $70 for the game on release and $50 for the season pass). You get one to two years out of it and then a new one comes out and they abandon the old one(servers are on but there is no new content or patches, most of the player base moves on to the new iteration).
Dust has been out longer than a year(I'm including beta time) and has received multiple content updates for free - you did not need to pay anything for the full experience(I spent $40 on Dust which is what I spend on most newish console games). Dust is still going to be updated but we don't know with what - it may or may not receive new content(I've only seen a definite no to PvE) but should receive balance and bug patches. |
