Some of the people at CCP think of the dedicated gamers in a negative light. I have 30 years worth of loyal subscription dollars sent off to Iceland, and I play Dust 514 for 10-20 hours a week. Since closed beta I've given this game about 20$ a month, to promote CCP development efforts, and build my pool of assets. I wanted to help build a community that's serious about PvP competition, and establish myself through practice and dedication. I wanted a walled garden where the average casual gamer knows that he's going to have to really dedicate himself to the community and the game if he wants to be involved. I'm not going to stop wanting that, or trying to make that happen.
I think the skill tree is really simplistic, and could be a lot more complex. I'm pretty sure your average grandma and toddler could figure out how to upgrade suits and guns (I've met them on Dust), but to hear CCP's monitization director on stage - saying he played for 8 months, and had a kind of bad K/D, and then blame the skill tree for not being 'accessible' enough -it made me feel a little sick. CCP management didn't censor that kind of idiocy, but instead put him in charge... it reminded me of the movie Idiocracy - "$hit. I know $hit's bad right now with all that starvin' bull$hit (K/D). And the Dust (514) storms. And we runnin' out of French Fries and burrito coverings (AUR sales). But I got a solution."
Your problem isn' that you just 'wanted to have the best gun right away and couldn't figure out the skill tree' - your problem is a bunch of hard-core dedicated fanatics, willing to spend significant time-money-and effort to participate in a serious gaming community. Try-hard fotm-chasers are a fact of life - and all you had to do was make the kiddie-pool a bit bigger, and your new breed of French-casual-pansy-gamer could have had a K/D worthy of his skills in the militia league...maybe. So, I agree that you need better match making, but why dumb down the skill tree?
I say maybe, because I still love this game, and a lot of other serious gamers love it too. I've played thousands of hours of other shooters, all the way back to Doom when I was in high school, and I'm not going anywhere. It will not matter how much of my saved assets are reset, or my SP is diluted, I'm still going to try. Another reset, or easier skill tree, or anything else will not save you from CCP's apparently toxic fans. I'll see you in Legion, and I'll do my best to make sure your K/D suffers to pad mine, and I'll tell you the same thing I heard in Eve when I failed in PvP - HTFU.

Welcom to modern gaming, where if the game doesnt sell to mentally impaired 6y/o, it wont make a profit. Or so the marketing department says.

You have to set some realistic expectations when it comes to sales. You can't just take the number of Playstations times 20 dollars and then take a loan out on the projected 'profits.'

i think this tread have a lot of promise, i think the skill tree can be improved a lot with image and a better organization, but i think it is actually too simple right now, it actually need to be more complex, and have better description to compensate
making simpler is a step in the WRONG direction
the problem is better training and better help for new player |

the problem is better training and better help for new player complexity is good for a long term experience, and is part of what eve is about
Whoever doesn't like to micromanage their skill tree can go on the forums and ask for ftom recommendations. Solved.

What moron needed help with their skill tree?!?
Just had to go to player info and then skills and it gave you a very simplistic list. A 6 year old can figure the skill list out. And pressing triangle on the skill showed you the pre-requisites. How can CCP say that is too confusing or complicated, its impossible. They are just making excuses.

I never really liked DUST. It was crappy in beta. It's still crappy today. I like and play a lot of console shooters... just not this one.
I really LIKE the EvE universe though. EvE is a really solid game... really the only PC game worth playing imho.
I just don't like wasting time. Thankfully, I did NOT waste a lot of time in DUST. Every month or two I'd log in ("is it any better?"), kill some of you toolbags ("nope. still a crappy game"), and log unsatisfied ("where is DUST even going?"). If it dies, que sara sara. If it comes back in the form of Legion... yah I want to keep my stuff and SP... maybe even roll this char into my EvE main if possible.
Dust is dead. ...and f*** DUST. It was a lame game. Hopefully Legion will be better, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm over DUST. For those of you that are still hardcore about it... be prepared to be laughed at. We were guinea pigs. We saved CCP a ton of $$ beta testing this crapfest for them. Some of us even paid CCP money for the right.
You should be upset, because we just got a big kick to our collective sacks.
Play EvE. It's an awesome game. Get pi**ed about DUST. You're right to be.
...but don't take a shot to the nuts and then say "thank you". That's just straight up denial, my man.
DUST sucked anyway. Play EvE instead.

I'm not thanking anyone for this debacle. CCP management figured they might skim off some of their toxic fans, and then open Dust up to a wider audience...as if the number of gamers interested in one sci-fi universe is really that many.
My main point is that I understand that you might make a ton of $AUR$ sales for BPO - MLT+STD leagues, but you don't have to dumb it down to make it 'Accessible-¬.'
