It's been a rough 24 hours. The news has shook us as a community in a way that is completely irreparable. After hearing what was going on and knowing in the back of my mind that the game I've loved and put a year and a quarter of an investment into was falling apart (and investment is the only word for it, because that's what it is) just rattled me in a way I was not ready for. Especially on a day of anticipation the likes of which could only be likened to falling asleep the night of Christmas eve knowing there was a big old gift sitting under the tree for the in the morning. And when you wake up and run down stairs the gift is that your parents are getting a divorce. It hurt. We all know that.
The hardest part for it for me was knowing that night I would have to break the news to my IRL friends (and band members) who played the game with me but on a far more casual basis. They'd scrape the time to get in some games with me and I'd be the DUST hub of the group. Gathering info to tell them about upcoming changes and generally running VERY ISK efficient suits so that when they eventually ran out of money (they always did) I could refill them. Last night having to tell them what happened, and the looks of shock and confusion on their faces was very difficult. Mostly they just didn't understand. But what happened next surprised me. After I told them Legion was still in alpha and nowhere release and that DUST would be fully supported for at least another year they gave me almost a smile and said "well, then we can play for another year at least!" and seemed genuinely excited about it. I tried to correct them at first and explain "no, no it's over. There's no reason to keep playing" but they didn't really see it that way and as a by-product I realized that while the game is falling apart my main reasons to keep playing (to support my real life/ in game gaming family) was still very much intact.
So, the final lesson here is: I'm sticking around. No where near the same level I was before, but as long as they're still into it I'm going to keep playing with them. It's not going to be the same, at all, but it's going to be something. And for the next few months we'll talk about our transition into further into EVE or completely out of it. But for now we're in.
Now to you guys. I understand you want to cash out. And I know many of you. Many of you have met me in battle and we've shared defeats and victories. I will honestly say this game will NOT be the same without the players I've come to respect, to admire, to fear, to be generally annoyed with, all of you. You guys made the community. Killing an "A Lister" 4 times in a match was an unparalleled high and without the time and effort you guys put in that would not have been possible. You're all going to be missed on the field of battle. Best of luck out there, guys. And if you need some place to drop your ISK then please send it my way, I'll make sure my IRL friends are using it to have as much fun as possible (and ship some out to any newer players I feel bad for murdering too many times. It kind of comes with the progress of just getting better at this game... you feel guilty about it sometimes.)

We just want our voices heard. Sometimes we need to do something extreme just to be noticed. If the death of my main General John Ripper eventually leads to everyone else having a fun game....
Sacrifice.... WORTH IT.
If the game dies anyways.. then it doesn't matter anyways.

I'd specifically respond to your points if I didn't know you're just trolling every post as hard as you can. Go lick a peppermint peepee.

In short, I suppose Dust lives another day in its current state, but the dream is dead, at least on PS3. And the dream was what many of us played for... |

This guy gets it. I played it for the investment and did so extra for them to not have to worry about it as much and just have fun with it.
