After watching this ask yourself are you actually having fun or are you just being conditioned to play?

I didn't watch the video, because I don't need to. I know the arguments contained within.
That is a dumb distinction, by which I mean a meaningless distinction. There is no difference between believing you are enjoying something and actually enjoying it. This distinction only comes into play when other people want to insist that you're not really enjoying the thing you're enjoying. GTFO. If the game is not fun for you, stop playing. If it is fun, for whatever reason, keep playing. Either way, stop trying to rain on our collective parade.

You do know that pretty much everything you'd call "psychology" is only theoretical at best?
"Conditioning" as you call it is nothing but a theory with almost no evidence based in repeatable experiments conducted in a controlled enviroment. |

"Conditioning" as you call it is nothing but a theory with almost no evidence based in repeatable experiments conducted in a controlled enviroment. I had a good laugh at Awary but your comments tales the cake. Discounting something you don't understand is type of Logic Fallacy, Argument from Fallacy.
The Ted talk was good. Although I do not think CCP is actively trying to apply any of the principles addressed in the presentation. The grind element is old-hat and becoming an industry standard. If anything CCP scaled back the other incentives such as officer drops. Match-making is still better but not enough to get any large numbers of new players hooked.
With how things are now things could only improve if they had a game psychologist on staff, ethics notwithstanding.

If you're talking about conditioning in the sense of classical or operant conditioning , there is a rather voluminous body of evidence.

P.S. My work deals with the biological basis of preference formation (primarily with regard to food choice), but I'm qualified to talk about conditioning should you have any questions. I also have a solid understanding of computational models of reward and addiction. |

Great presentation! I stop playing if it's not fun. Of course, that decision is up to each individual. Mindfulness is not a requirement for life.

Remember the Jedi arts and be mindful of your feelings. They may one day betray you.
Why would you assume that CCP is scrupulous?
