Love the smoke grenade and/or flash/concussion grenade. Give us options. However, I don't think it should be an also. Make it a completely separate grenade. to give us different fitting options. A locus grenade releasing smoke seems counter-intuitive because you are harming them but then they are covered so you can't really see them to finish them off.
Here is my take on these two ideas:
Smoke grenade releases smoke and covers an area for 35 seconds, increasing to 100% coverage over the first 5 seconds then gradually dispersing at 3.3% per second and covers 10-15-20 meters depending on std/adv/proto with the grenade being the epicenter of the smoke coverage. People will be unloading rounds into a cloud and having no clue if they are hitting or not (since, you know, no LOS to see the hit bar flashing and dropping.) This will give people time to get away or get to hiding to recover from a barrage.
Flash/concussion grenade does like 25 HP damage to all individuals within a 20 meter radius, and those individuals in that area lose control of motion and gunfire (basically your controller screws up on you and your aim isn't correct, forward may be backwards, left may be right (or might not be, you never know)) for 4-2.5-1 seconds depending on distance from the grenade, closest being most affected. Higher tiered grenades have a slightly higher HP and radius, but same loss of control time. Instead of the first 3 meters having 4 seconds of control issues, it would be like 5 meters or something. Then 7 for Proto.
I'm loving this idea. Hope you don't mind that I expanded on it. These are just my thoughts on basic info for these. |

Yeah, but it is doing minimal damage (25 vs. whatever a locus does). It's not killing you, It's disorienting you.. A locus is pure alpha damage. And at the farthest ranges, it is only disorienting you for 1 second. Are you thinking 5-7-10 meters or something in that range? I guess the reason I was thinking larger is, if it has the same range as a locus which is pure alpha damage, why not just use the locus? |

The only real issue I have with these are how do you figure out WP for them? The flash I think would be pretty easy. Anyone killed while disoriented gives you a kill assist (or some other random figure like 15 WP, not sure). The Smoke grenade, how do you figure out how it helps. Anyone in the smoke within 25 meters of an enemy gets a "concealment" bonus of 5 WP? Because if it is anytime, people will throw them just to milk WP points. There should be a reason to use them, and having an enemy the enemy in area is the only really legit reason except for reviving someone who was sniped, in which case, you'll be getting the revive WP's so you're still benefitting. Or if you just want to help them (and likely yourself) escape, in which case just be happy you saved a teammate and/or yourself. |
