Amidst a live-fire exercise and talks about a fourth nuclear weapons test, I have picked a great day to take a tour of the DMZ and North Korea. I have written some challenges to mark the occasion.
Chief General of the Democratic Republic of Tacos Goal: Pay your due respects to the fearless and triumphant leader of the forums. General John Ripper, by giving him a like. For every 1000 likes that he surpasses (he is currently at 20,791 likes) each unique forum character in this thread receives 1 ticket toward the Dust Challenge Lottery.
Diplomacy on the Table Location: The 'tabletop' socket in Line Harvest Challenge: Kill three or more players standing on top of the socket with an orbital. Reward: 10 tickets base, 1 bonus ticket for every additional enemy (friendly fire kills do count ) Claim with video
Red Rover, Red Rover, send your solider over Challenge: With two squads of (minimum) four players play a game of red rover at the Gallente research facility socket in the area where the 2nd floor Null Canon terminal for C is located (or anyplace with a narrow zone). Reward: 15 tickets to all players involved. Claim with video
Running Man Pre-Requisites: A minimum of 1 friendly missile tank; three enemy players with remote explosives Challenge: In a q-synced group, designate one player as the "Run DMZ" and another for 'distraction tank' to be members on the same team. At the start of a match these player will sit in a tank, looking away from their teammates on the enemy side. Fellow group members on this 'enemy' side will pepper a wide path of ground with remote of explosives which the runner must cross from to end without dying. When the field is set the runner takes off and the job of distraction tank is to fire upon the friendly team member (FF is off) and path the runner is crossing, potentially setting off remotes. Reward: 19 tickets to all players involved. Claim with video

General John Ripper wrote:Could be 2 tickets if I get 1200 likes, 3 if I get 2200. It is not a far stretch. I got 1,000 in the past 2 weeks and I didnt even post for a few days and I wasn't even apart of this contest yet. And don't forget about the ticket transfer tools I put in place...so bring out your ALTs en mass.
Also, GJR, as you requested. See entry 57.

I may regret this latter...however I'm going to say new posters can redeem retroactive tickets built from the original starting point of 20,791 likes for GJR. I guess you can call this inventive forum bumping.
If you have any ideas of 'North Korean' challenges or creative activities (see player challenges) please share them.

One of the things which really struck me as surprising is how much the DMZ is promoted by South Korean tour films as a majestic nature reserve for endangered species because the land has been relatively untouched since the 1960s. Chernobyl is also a 'nature reserve' but I don't imagine the animals there have to contest with the 1 million offhand land mines that were air-dropped into the zone.

lee corwood wrote:I was also surprised when I visited 2 years ago. I looked through many of their tours after we visited family and most all of the guides were pushing the DMZ. However, in a seriously declining economy, I guess you have to do all you can... A point could certainly be made that a "LOT" is made off the dozen or so souvenir shops on and around the DMZ and Panmunjom. Yes, I did buy some North Korea liquor. I am hesitant to open it.
