I've been noticing a pattern to matches regarding uplinks. Namely their placement on buildings.
Is this a viable tactic? I personally feel its not most of the time and makes me sad when this happens in a match.
Now fine, this is dependant on the map and the building in question, but it seems to me to be a very selfish tactic.
From my perspective it appears to be this -
- The uplinks are harder to destroy so can potentially gain the 250 (or more) max WP per uplink.
- Players that spawn on them are often vulnerable when trying to get back on the ground, and in some cases a heavy can get stuck up there.
- When that fails they stay up there and try to engage at long range ineffectively
- Anyone left on the ground is short on players so are outnumbered easier
So max benefits to the person dropping the uplinks but almost no gain for the rest of the team
Am I right? I don't know, I've never had call to do it even if I pilot a DS.
Just a little insight to my perspective - 2 days ago I got top of the team solo (26/1) on a terribly low SP alt in a match because someone put uplinks on the roof of B point in the Lag Facility. All I had to do was kill them as they landed on the ground. And they only took the point because nobody could hear me on comms and I had to go away for more ammo

its a crap move
if your in FW and spawn on one always remember to destroy it
proper uplink placement and proper uplink movement is so important
some uplinks (in very rare cases) are great in high places but they can still get your team crapped on

A competent squad can use them well mostly, but it usually ends up a bunch of bums trapped on a roof contemplating walking the plank.

big corps do this very commonly in pub matches, aside from the equipment spam in supply depots.
i took out everyone on the roof one, i called in a gorgon and flew to the red infested rooftop. the ship was already getting hammered by the swarm launchers, but i made it to the roof and quickly got out before i got blown up along with it. the gorgon blocked them from seein me so i immediately cloaked up, and after they turned their attention away, i started the knifing massacre on the rooftop. try that if you are a scout and hv issues dealing with em
