Are there any plans for dust to go into hi-resolution? Right now when the game comes on my tv indicates it is only getting a 720 picture but when in the ps3 main menu it is at 1080. I know there are PLENTY of issues in Dust that need to be properly corrected to really make the game better but i am just curious if there are long term plans to make this a 1080 game and add some real detail. I have plenty of room on my PS3 hard drive for nice big detailed maps and such. |

Hopefully when it hits PS4 it will be 1080. With the current framerate issues, I don't think ps3 can handle dust in 1080.

You think rendering is bad now? I am a-feared of what 1080 will do. |

Now why is it such common belief that a PS3 can't handle it? BF4 is 1080 and the framerates are not an issue. It has destructible environments and multiplayer and higher res than Dust. I think its mostly a coding issue on ccp's end. |

But BF4 doesn't have modules, dropsuits, shield/armor etc.
Means that BF4 doesn't need to calculate that much.

Yeah, PS3 games don't generally do 1080p for a reason.

I thought that 720 was high def, with 1080 just being higher.

Arx, take it from an old HiFi buff, you are NOT older than you thought.
"Hi-Definition" is a category that applies to 720 and up. (There is an argument whether 720-i_interlaced fits into that description too, or if 720-p_progressive is the lowest guy who should be invited to the party).
At 720, Dust is Hi-Def.
On the PS3, some games at 720 look GOURGEOUS, and some 1080 games look dull and spastic. It's not the graphic capability of the console, it's whether the game is scripted to utilize the PS3's strengths and stay away from its weaknesses.
Sturmovik-IL is a 1080 progessive game, that even in online multiplayer, doesn't bog down with any noticeable frame problems----and it DOES require every bit of what the PS3 can give, to keep up with the crazy fighting pace of our matches.
I play Dust on a 40 inch monitor, and unless I'm in PC matches (...sometimes FW) I have not frame or lag problems. We shouldn't always blame the game or the console, and let those SNEAKY online service providers slither away as if they have nothing to do with our technical difficulties. Those,...RATS! |

My god. The game doesn't even run consistent 30 FPS in SD resolution with all detail settings to low (believe me I've tried). Everytime I see somebody ask for better graphics, or more players, I wonder if we are playing the same game. I don't know, maybe my PS3 is broken after all? I just can't achieve acceptable framerates with this game, and I'd give anything for a LOW quality mode that actually runs at 30 FPS.
My laptop with integrated Intel graphics card runs PlanetSide 2 smoother than DUST runs for me on the PS3. I"m not joking.
And once again, it's not the PS3 which can't deliver a better experience. It's just that the PS3 architecture is ridiculously complicated, so some games look awesome while most games don't handle it well. Unreal Engine doesn't handle it well, not even close. Some teams have optimised their version of Unreal Engine to work a bit better on PS3, but it's unrealistic to expect CCP to put a lot of resources into this now, considering that PS3 is fading out and the PS4 (like all next gen consoles) has switched to a PC-like architecture instead. |

Very few retail games are native 1080p, one rare rare example is Ridge Racer from 2006. The are a few 1080 PSN games though, such as the Pixeljunk series, although it's mainly limited to games with relatively simplistic graphics. |

For me honestly its rare that i have issues with framerate now. I used to have issues abound but i switched to wired, i found the wireless on my ps3 was very lousy. Speed tests from the PS3 with wireless were about 5 down and about 1 up. Once connected by wire it shot up to 30 down and 4 up. My wireless is a duel band router and most other wireless devices including my dvd player have no issues with lagg and generally test at 20 down 4 up. As far as up-scaling goes I am SOL there i bought a dynex tv on a black friday sale a couple years ago and it does not upscale. |

I don't understand why DUST pushes the performance on the PS3 so much. Mine hums and groans when playing DUST but has no problems with Last of Us/Uncharted, Call of Duty no problems at all but jeez every PS3 I have seen is a beached whale when it comes to DUST: a game that doesn't have the best graphics, sprawling levels, voice acting beyond "Cad-ture Null Cannons to Dis-Troy Hostile MCC", etc. I am curious what makes this game such a burden to run.

BF4 on PS3 is 1280x704 on PS3.

Might be your system. Listening to mine when I play Dust it doesn't make much of a noise. Normal noise when I play games on it. Nothing loud or out of the ordinary. |

Some PS3's clearly struggle more than others and i think a lot of it is because of somewhat poor heat dissipation coupled with age of the systems. For a short while i was flipping PS3's with YLOD from Ebay. Simple process for the most part. I bought high quality thermal paste (forgot what it was i used but it cost about 30$ per siring ) and it was normally easy to correct ( there were a couple systems i ate because they would not come out of YLOD so i pulled those totally apart and sold every part off except the main board ) Anyway after fixing multiple ps3 systems i found that really it does a lot of good to pull the system totally apart, clean everything with ISO alcohol dry everything thoroughly, replace the old heat sink compound and to of course put everything back together carefully. A few systems i had actually would work for a few minutes before going into YLOD and one thing they all had in common was that they would run somewhat loud with nothing playing.
Thermal paste unfortunately only lasts so long before it just does not conduct heat as well as it should. The stuff i used on my repaired PS3 is supposed to last 8 years if i remember correctly. |
