I've always been a fan of the ScPs. Heck, I even went so far as to attain 1000+ kills with the standard, asaault, and breach variants during the last sidearm event. However, one variant I was never keen on using was the burst ScP--that is until now.
At first, the Car-9 Burst ScP seemed to be nothing more than a high RoF, low damage pistol. Its hip-fire dispersion was too great and it went through ammo quickly. I've played with it a few times in the past, and unlike the other ScPs, it never really performed well as a main. Today, I decided to give it another go but instead of loading it to my main weapon slot, I opted to see how it would perform as a sidearm.
The results were stunning. Compared to the other variants, the Car-9 excelled as a finisher. What surprised me most is that 80% of random center of mass shots would somehow turn into headshot kills. I could only assume the upward travel of the bursts aided in this.
After achieving such positive results, I wanted to see what other things it was capable of. In a couple of Domination games, I loaded up a dual Burst ScP fit and brought along a decent amount of nanohives. I familiarized myself with its hip-fire and ADS dispersion, RoF, and kick.
This is what I learned:
-The Burst ScP can be fired with almost no delay between bursts. If one were to spam the trigger, the normal pattern of fire would be 1, 2, 3, slight pause, 1, 2, 3, slight pause, etc. However, if trigger presses are initiatited during the moment the third round makes contact, the Burst ScP is able to rhythmically fire in a consistent 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 pattern. The other variants are also capable of achieving this, but the Burst ScP is the only one capable of attaining near automatic weapon firing speeds.
-There is no kick in between bursts. As evidenced by some weapons, notably the MagSec SMG for prolonged presses or the Combat Rifle for repeated presses, kick tends to take effect over time, making the crosshairs of the weapon rise in placement. Initially, the ScP may appear to suffer from the same problem because of the rising spread in each burst, but after careful examination of the placement of crosshairs against a wall, I discovered that the crosshairs never move. They are static. Each consecutive burst will always fire in the same general vicinity.
-ADS elliminates all bullet dispersion. To test this, I went into Oceania and found an AFKing blueberry. Whilst ADS, I fired two consecutive bursts from 1m away just at the very peak of the unknowing test subject's head. I got hit markers for every round at this distance. I then moved back to 10m and repeated the same test, still aiming for the very top of his head. Again, all hits registered. Finally, I moved back 20m and repeated it all over, and as you can guess, each round had a hit marker--none hitting the wall that was directly behind my blueberry friend.
In all, I'm not even sure if this is news to any of you. I could very well be late on this, but I felt as if I should share it for those who are unfamiliar with the Burst ScP. I'm sure there is more to learn about the weapon, so for now, I'll be equipping it to every fitting I have--just to see what else I could pick up. |

Spectral Clone wrote:ACR + burst ScP = Yay dead reds. This is true, but I'm biased towards the regular version of the CR due to its higher damage.
Also, I'm use to firing it with very little delay between bursts so I kill things faster as opposed to my ventures with the ACR. |

Yep, the burst is pretty sick if you ADS and time your shots. Nice findings and write-up!
(you did violate the first and second rules of ScP club, though....)

Though my success mostly resides with the Submachine Gun, I've enjoyed the Scrambler Pistol for it's DPS and it's... satisfyingly devastating headshot bonus. In particular I've been fond of the Breach, since it pretty much 3 shots starter fits and the headshots really beat down the heavies. I've never used the Burst, though I plan on trying it.
Has anyone used the Tactical variant that's salvage only? I only have Operation 3 at the moment, so I can't use it. (Focusing my SP elsewhere right now) I'd like to know what it's qualities are and how it performs.
I use: Gallente Assault with an AR, Swarms + AV Grenades, and Missile Gunnlogi + Small Blasters.

For the amount of time I've used ScPs, I've never used the tactical variant. I'm pretty sure I have more than 50. If anything, I'll give them a little test later as I'm now heading off to bed. |

I like the IA5 a lot, and have a standing order out to my fellow scoundrels once open market hits (if Bojo doesn't steal the inventory!)
I haven't tried it in 1.8 but the additional range, zoom and ROF in 1.7 was nice. It had the damage of the standard variants, even though it is an advanced weapon.
The additional ADS zoom makes headshots a lot sweeter. It had the old ROF of the TT-3 assault pistol and I believe now it has the 300 ROF that all the assault variants have.
It's a great weapon if you like to go for the skillshots (and want to risk playing with a salvage only weapon)

Try turning ads x and y sensitivities to 100 and go fight with just ads.
I guarantee you'll crap your pants after seeing the power and accuracy of the burst scrambler. Two shots to the head will kill all medium frames and heavies will die in three. |

When 1.8 came in, I used the CAR-9 as my main weapon with my knives. Was good enough to be a TT-3 sub for me. Just started using the TT-3 and Viziam again but the CAR-9 is still the bee's knees.

Yup. For me it's the only SCP that has really held up well post-nerf. IMO it was clearly the worst of the SCPs pre-1.8, but post 1.8, clearly the best.

The tactical variant makes a nice side arm for low range weapons like the HMG. You can catch people off guard while they are looking over a ledge and think they have you pinned down. |

Trying to shoot with the CAR-9 was never a good thing. So unstable back in 1.7. It had an awkward shooting pattern. I remember trying it in 1.7 and being upset. xD
