I'm not necessarily talking about taking a persons proto weapons, lav, dropship or tank, but about looting the resources that are so valuable in new eden. everyone talks about adding industry? isnt theft one of the worlds oldest?
whether we're looting planetary infrastructure, corp armories, technology, hostages or the ore some eve carebear just mined it gives corps the ability to buy, ransom and sell things on the market that other people want.
start dust players off with the ability to kidnap npcs, loot resources or disrupt industry on planets/stations and watch us profit. |

It's not there because CCP can't even get the basics right - can you imagine the mess this game would be if they tried to add those sorts of mechanics in!?

They talked about implementing this but that is a fairly big request. Do you just get the vehicle or do you get the modules to? What if those modules were blueprint? It causes a crap ton of checks and doing that kind of muscle work in game would create even more lag. They have to improve some other things before going there.
However, before they implement that (and I say this as a non vehicle user) I think they need to create some catches so that:
1. You don't lose a vehicle if the RDV delivery fails. I've seen so much isk lost because the RDV decided to be fickle and torpedo items. That's a failed mechanic and shouldn't cost the mercenary.
2. You don't lose a vehicle if you DC. I've seen so many players lose really REALLY expensive vehicles because of a DC. I think if you get forcibly removed from battle, the vehicle should be auto-recalled on that players behalf.
However, you killing the pilot/driver and taking his stuff. By ALL MEANS, please do so. I've done this and it was glorious. Still, the priority here should be number 1 because that's just bullshit.

Reiki, I think you're referring to the "looting" of whole facilities or District's, with their refineries and operating personnel intact, and holding them for ransom or "industrial take-over/purchase" by whichever corp makes the juiciest offer to you. I think that's cool. But I think your thread is about to be de-railed onto the smaller definition of looting, as in pulling a dead red merc out of his LAV, and "acquiring" the vehicle and everything that's on it...
I like the idea of looting a vehicle and acquiring modules that I am "LOCKED" from using, but maybe still can trade second-hand to a player who HAS the neural level to unlock and use them... that's easily answered.
But I like the idea of looting districts even more. I THINK that was (and still is....just needs more SOON-time) the intent of Dust players being linked to Eve Online. Capsuleers want to own a district for its resources, but sometimes I'm sure they just want to SHUT the other capsuleer/corp down from having access to the district.
Maybe they want the faciltiy and its personnel for themselves (...if I understand correctly, in EVE you have to "purchase" engineers and management personnel the way you purchase a module, to run your spacestations better and better). The capsuleer or corp hires Dust players to assault and overthrow the facility or district they are after. It's a simple contract-hire with a single client. But maybe when the capsuleer wants simply to sever an opponent's ownership of a district, the capsuleer just hires some Dust players to sack the damn facility and they don't care if we incinerate the place or leave refinery running and its personnel still "purchasable". In this case it's an open-hire, the capsuleer's satisfied when the district is rendered OWNERLESS, and he doesn't care what we do with it, so the Dust players who attacked the place are free to offer the facility (+/- its personnel?) to any other interested capluseers on an EVE market. In effect the Dust players "loot" the district for anything that can be sold as a package or as separate "modules" to Eve players.
I guess the loot-sale would HAVE to be to Eve players, since swag like cases of Biomass-jelly, landing/loading sockets, and "facility efficiency administrator" are unusable to Dust mercs, but make Eve ship players DROOL.
And I don't think it's far away or improbable. I think it is part of the plan and the way it is supposed to work between us and Eve Online. I've said it before: we're having fun here running in circles on Dust 514,... but this is NOT the game yet--we're still a little way from full-blown EVE Dust 514 glory. You have your eye correctly on the prize, Reiki! That's the game I want to be playing too!! We just have to do more faithful waiting... |

Salvage is supposed to act as loot. I personally think CCP does't want real looting done as that would recirculate a lot more AUR gear which would in turn cause CCP to lose money.

this is gold. and the option to secure a facility, cripple its production or destroy it is something that could easily be separated by contract type to give players a variety of objectives.
