I much prefer alpha damage to reload speed. What's the point of reloading if your target survives to take cover and regen? |

Why are so many people writing sniper guides all of a sudden? There are already several already on the rookie forum.
However, the only thing you really need to do to be better at sniping is read about sniping in real life and remember that the overriding rule to sniping that applies to any kind of sniping no matter what is:
Stealth. I.e. Don't get detected. Don't give away your position. Really, that sums it all up.
That being said. This game is silly, not at all the right conditions for when sniping would actually be employed and does not allow the adequate mechanics to allow for proper stealth as it pertains to sniping.
Therefore, as a sniper enthusiast I now just pretty much run around mainly using an smg and swapping to the ol' sniper rifle when I can.
And the most important thing to remember about sniping in this game is that you should be doing it for your own enjoyment, not for others. Why help a team? It is a video game. It is entertainment.
Why would I be playing a game for YOUR enjoyment? You are here to entertain me. If the team is good they will win. If they are bad you won't be able to make them better. It is the core of CCPs philosophy GÇô survival of the fittest. So long as that is based on actual play and not broken mechanics ( PC cough) it is valid.
Lol, the ban hammer got me!

I'll leave this here.
I'd like to highlight a few sections as being very applicable to sniping in DUST:
Sniper Nests Vehicles, specifically... ...Tanks ...Attack Helicopters Escape & Evasion Counter-Sniper Ops
And yes, I wrote that guide.

I would like to point out something about the quick scan- you aren't necessarily looking for a chevron. When you move the scope, there's actually a faint glimmer where a player is most of the time.

*facepalm...* BF4 in Dust 514? Dust is nowhere near Bf4 at this point.

Yes, all commandos get the reload bonus.
And I can easily think of why you would want to reload quickly:
Play Domination. There are more targets in one 10m square are than you have bullets in a clip

Many of the basic principles of that guide are identical to how a sniper should behave in DUST. If you can't see that you're an idiot. Try using your imagination.
Also, I wrote that loooong before BF4 was even an idea. That was a BF3 guide.

All I'm saying is that Dust mechanics are so weak and map design so....questionable that it's like comparing a wagon (Dust) ti BF4 (a ferrari) when it comes to sniping.
An yes, BF4 is just BF3.5, Everyone saw it coming, even the blind people.

However, can I please use the Calmando (heavy variant) and keep a good name? That suit was practically made for and only for sniping.
Charge FTW.
That Calmando suit is friggin' amazing for sniping. Only downsides are slow as molasses and crap for hacking.

CCP, where are the Minmatar Anti-Material Sniper Rifles? You know, the ones that fire explosive rounds from shorter distances? An upgrade from the mass driver - it also has a firing arc.

CCP is hesitant to install new scopes on our snipers because of "redlining" fears. But when our sniper rifles have such bad damage and such bad zoom/ handling, I kind of feel that we deserve a little better.
