You should be able to pick up weapons from fallen allies and enemies on the battlefield.
Dust encourages players to specialize very specifically into their role, which is fine. But I feel too many players get caught up running the exact same suit and weapon over and over again. We need more variety
There are a lot of cool weapons in Dust, but that does no good if most players never get to see all of them.
Here's how I'd have it work.
When a player dies, his weapon(s) will be laying beside his body (for no more than 15 seconds I'd say before disappearing).
When you walk over the weapon, assuming you have the appropriate weapon slot available (light, sidearm etc.) it will say "Hold square to pickup Laser Rifle". Now your light weapon slot will be replaced with the Laser Rifle.
If you are not skilled into a weapon, it's effectiveness will be reduced to basic/militia levels. If you are skilled into a weapon, you will use it at maximum efficiency.
Also, choosing a weapon is a pretty tough choice for the new players. It would be nice if they actually had a chance to use a few different weapons before leaving the academy.

I'd also like to see this play a part of obtaining salvage in the future.
Weapons could be picked up on the battlefield, and returned to a supply depot to be added to your assets.

E.g. a BPO militia suit picks up a kalakiotta Rail rifle?
I'd probably just give someone a pass on PG/CPU limitations. Picking up a new weapon would not effect your PG/CPU. Lore-wise we could say that a suits emergency reserves could manage the weapon for a limited time without issue IE: until you die and lose it.

Chief-Shotty wrote:NO bro.. then people in militia suits could pick up proto weapons and basically you could give yourself a huge tank or whatever and sacrifice a light weapon with a cheap sidearm....wait for a buddy to shoot a guy and then pick up a weapon that would clearly not fit the suit <---this could break the game. You could collect the ammo if the guy uses the same type of weapon but nothing more than that.
I could agree on this being a way to salvage bodies to get whatever is fitted on the suit although that could have a impact on the marked whenever it comes out. I also suspect more friendly fire as one could kill a buddy with an officer weapon and steal his Thale's or something. Also protostomping would be hardcore if teams of protos could pick up their teammates belongings and therefore not lose the suit or fitting (trade or sell it back to them)
1.) As mentioned in the initial post - If you do not have skills into a weapon, it is picked up at a penalty. IE if you have no AR skills, a duvolle functions as a militia rifle.
2.) You're also saying that militia people could kill proto's and steal their weapons... and that would be a problem? First, I don't see that happening. A team is not going to spawn militia just hoping to kill proto squads and steal their guns. Second, proto-hunter squads in militia gear would be one of the best things for this game! Sounds like an actual incentive to not proto stomp pubs to me.
3.) Friendly fire could potentially be an issue. But it could also be an issue with vehicles as well. Don't let blueberries scare you away from good game features. Not only that, this problem is easily dealt with.
