Ok so I am actually starting to get a bit pissed off. I figure I will ask the community on how to tell which side of the dropship you will exit out of after landing or whatever.
I have, on numerous occasions, landed and came out the rear back and fell off of a tower. I have also came out of the front of the dropship. I am talking about when it is completely, 100% not in motion (maybe a slight rocking back and forth or something).
How do you know which side you will come out of or can you force a side when you press circle? |

I don't think you do. I'm pretty sure the dropship plays wheel of fortune with a teleporter to figure it out.

If your dropship is fully landed with all parts of the dropship touching the ground you will ALWAYS come out in the front of the dropship when exiting from the pilot seat.
I'm a logi now! :D

I frequently fly the dropship and exit in open areas, near obstacles, mid flight and there is no rhyme or reason as to where you will come out of the vehicle. It is undependable, so plan accordingly. This is a gay feature.

I believe its determined by the orientation of the dropship when you exit.
As an example, ever been in a dropship and got shot down? Tried jumping out and committing suicide as your squashed by the DS? I believe thats caused because the nose is pitched downwards 90% of the time and youre getting out in front. Changing seat before an emergency exit helps means you survive.
As for your point, try and tilt the controls in the direction of exit, see if that helps.
Was attempting to proto every weapon a bad idea? Yes. 11 so far

Yep. It's pretty damn random. One time I exited on top of my dropship?
But on the plus side of things, CCP seems to have done something to prevent us from falling off structures when exiting dropships. And this works most of the time.

Once I land the craft I look around my dropship perimeter. Sice it is hard to be sure what side you'll exit when dismounting from the pilot seat, if I see a good space to one side or the other I will rotate into the gunner seats and exit from there. |

This post is specifically because I have fell off of structures two out of the last three times I landed a little off angle. |
