I think this would be a great addition to the game. When someone types in team chat it appears on screen in blue and when someone types in squad chat it appears on screen in green. Pretty much like Battlefield on PC.
Why is this useful? When you're in a squad and have no mic and want to communicate something in match 99% of the time no one will see the message because they're to busy fighting.
This way mic less players can contribute more tactically and be more of use with callouts and requests. So instead of meeleing a blue logi until he gives you ammo you can just type it and he'll see it. Or when you spot a sniper you can tell your squad.
Thoughts?

Would be very useful. :3
I would probably spam "NOOBS PUSH UP YOU COWARDS!" in team chat a lot though.

Some form of proximity chat or even a small array of basic voice commands would make dealing with the borderline r-tarded blueberries more bearable.

Lay down a Compact, when I have almost no Armor, then some blueberries come up and start resupplying themselves. Get your own Nanohive!

anyone remember back in the day when it lit up on screen who was actually speaking at the time too? that'd alway sbe a nice feature to bring back especially when runnign with bluedots so you can respond accordingly, also having at least squad mates names appear on screen above thier char qould be an even welcome return. really getting fed up of
"hey green dot, green dot, yeah you near the.... ahh doesn't matter you're dead now... sorry bud"

I'd also welcome a selection of messages that you could pick from that would be fast to input. While on team/squad chat, you could press triangle instead of square and it would bring a window with stuff like "I need ammo", etc.

Using it to relay CO orders would be nice. Too much planning seems forced to be done on the Warbarge without allowing for changes on the ground.

But without needing to switch to any special window. Proximity speech / notification + squad.

Even if using the soft keyboard you can type really, really fast. Don't underestimate that some of us have been us have been using the soft keyboard for 7 years, and that if you do anything long enough you get really good at it. And yes, I actually use it quite a bit in the middle of battle to communicate with EVE players when doing FW. That's another use for this feature right there, EVE players tend to type in team chat a good bit when connected to the district.

come to think of it.. yeah. this could be really useful. maybe in small "frame" under the kill feed?
One thing is for certain... the HUD needs some SERIOUS re-invention. I'd like to see way more customization options, including individual transparency settings (the map causes burn-in on my screen because of the MCC health bars), a squad list (who's in your squad/talking/their health status, each individually add/removable), I think your armor bar should turn yellow if you're being rep'd, and a small list of names should pop up in yellow, telling you who's repping you, and what your HP/s bonus is from the reps. This would help heavies a ton, knowing just how far they can push it...
Truthfully, the HUD in DUST seems so bare-bones and .. almost amateur when you see how complex and in-depth the HUD in EVE is. I know, FPS vs computer MMO, but it's still CCP! |
