What weapons do you typically run? EWAR mods are your friend. I typically run at least 1 complex precision enhancer in a high slot on my advanced and proto fits and usually have a range amp and/or a profile dampener. This will help to maximize your suits bonuses.

No seriously give more detail on what type of character you want and someone can assist you better. The current FoTM is to brick tank it out, however, as any real Scout will tell you that gimps the suit for its real purpose... which is hunting and killing from the shadows. Fit eWAR mods and either Rail Rifles or Combat Rifles. |

Depends on what's on the field I guess. Generally I'll use 2 precision enhancers/light damage mods and 2 profile damps. As a scout I hope to kill them on de-cloak so I'm not too concerned with shields. Run the best cloak I can just for the long timer. Stopping briefly in a corner somewhere when stamina depletes, I can de-cloak and still be in the green to cloak up again in case I see something ping on map while waiting for stamina to recover. As long as I'm cloaked and not running blindly, shimmering through red chevrons I can usually sneak up close enough to see their direction and flank so I haven't used range extenders much yet. I've been trying to adjust lately though.
As for weapons, I started with shotgun. If I don't one-hit or can't track for whatever reason and the player gains some distance I'll switch to MAGSEC to cover the distance. It was trippy using MAGSEC for the first time because I kept forgetting there was a charge, thinking I had an SMG or something. =(
Mostly now, I start with combat rifle to keep some range stalking someone. With shotgun, I find myself getting a bit of tunnel-vision when sprinting to get into position and as a result, I am sometimes spotted running in stealth by some kat with a rail riffle just off radar. So, if it's tight I'll use CR at range and avoid the squadmates that may be actively watching his back or the wasted time chasing someone down, while keeping better perspective on others around. If game seems slower or I'm playing defense I'll switch back to SG.
