If jet packs were introduced into the game, then what should the constraints be?
Limited fuel? Limited range but recharging power? A missle in the middle, Boba Fett style? High powered and quick? Low powered and slow? Eliminates fall damage if used prior to landing? Shoot while flying? Drop REs while flying?

I would say just look at how they work in Halo; the ideal speed would be slightly faster than climbing a ladder.

An Armoured Core style booster would be cool, especially if the versatility and the ratio of inertia/power consumption was the same: You could stay airborne for a long time if you knew how to maintain a certain speed, and it could also be used as a ground speed booster (with a heavy price to overall maneuverability), or as an evasive tactic.
I have no idea what it's like these days though, I haven't played any ps3 version, and the original was always the best for PvP matches otherwise.
Cloak/Shotty Scouts would complain though.
Shouting doesn't make your opinion seem more valid, it just makes you seem more annoying.

Would a jet pack belong in an equipment slot?
This would preclude firing a weapon or using other equipment while flying, since the jetpack would have to be selected exclusively.

This has been suggested since the beginning of Closed Beta. It still isn't here. Think on that.

I was thinking kind of like planetside two, they have to different kinds of jetpacks. The normal ones that just send you up, and a drifter kind that doesn't really move you up but lets you glide.
The drifter one ahs alot more fuel and last longer than the regular kind, the speed on it would be a little faster than maybe a medium suit walking.
The regular jetpack is pretty much how everyone has imagined it, limited fuel/battery that recharges, ( pretty much like cloaks and scanners ) or maybe give them alot of fuel but you have to go to a supply depot to refuel it once your out.
And one kind that isnt in PS2 would be a jump pack which has 1 charge before it has to reload, and it basically jumps you up extremely high and extremely fast

Assault class bonus- CPU/PG reduction to the fitting cost of jetpack equipment modules per level
jetpack equipment (inset insane CPU/PG requirements loak style)
fual would be similar to how to how a cloak timer works in that as you use the jetpack it drains the timer and while your not jetpacking the fual recharges ALA capaciter
this would mean those pesky rooftop positions are no longer safe to park on top of and more acecable so rooftop antics will be more available to the masses
probably the most balanced way of introducing a jetpack and it gives the assault class something unique and VERY valuble to a team.

Jetpacks should use capacitor (just like other active equipment like cloaks, active scanners, rep tools, etc.). They should be equipment. The mass of the suit should play a role in the maneuverability. They should cause a signature bloom that increases your profile by 500% like a MWD in EVE. You should be lockable with swarms when it's active (and possibly for a brief time after you land as it cools down. You should be able to hipfire your weapon while flying with a significant penalty to accuracy. A proto jetpack should be able to reach the top of towers. It should have high fitting costs (less than an unbonused cloak though). You should be able to fly around in all directions, the standard PS2 jetpack is a good model to work from. Jetpacking into a ceiling at high speed should cause damage equivalent to fall damage.
These would add a whole lot more depth to combat with verticality being much more important. It's a counter to forgers on towers, and can give you access to difficult to reach places. Swarms are a hard counter to these, which expands their role, and keeps things balanced. Dropship pilots will still have a role (moving groups of players quickly around the map, and providing aerial fire support once there). The fact that jetpacks will help clear towers from forge gunners should help make their lives better, even if it cuts into their role of dropping uplinks in strategic locations. There are too many maps where getting to key elevated positions and setting up uplinks is a guaranteed victory. Having counters to these tactics makes the gameplay more balanced and fun.

Tankers are being diagnosed with a new disease; Cancer of the Assault Dropship.
Many of them don't survive.

No capacity for firing, easily detected by scans/visuals, enough fuel to span no less than a quarter of the map, recharge, and considerable CPU/PG constraints.
Or only the pilot/new role specific suit can fly, seems like the better idea. |

Go use jetpacks in Planetside 2, almost perfect (duration, speed, recharge, noise). ******* incredible fun but not OP.
TBH I think the assault suit using jetpacks in the same way scouts use cloaks would give them a role. |
