Hate to spoil the secret, but I've known a little reason why the people who use aurum do as well as they do. It's because of a little bug in the system.
See, If you use a Isk based prototype damage mod, in addition to an aurum prototype damage mod, there is absolutely no stacking penalty.
Not sure If CCP intended for this to be that way, or whether They have addressed it at all.
So, If you see yourself keep getting beat up by aurum suits, just remember that the stacking penalty probably still isn't carried over from aurum to non aurum items.
Maybe you can use this to your advantage too, and give CCP a reason to keep working on DUST and not give up on it ;)
This is from a non Aurum user who was told the secret ;)
If I'm not wrong the same things apply to Loyalty Items vs Normal items.

If I'm not wrong the same things apply to Loyalty Items vs Normal items. This is wrong, I've tested this. It doesn't work and the penalty seems to apply. Not to mention that a REAL test would be a code release by CCP since just pointing and shooting a teammate in FW isn't always the best method. It was, however, good enough for me to realize that the penalty applies. I tested this with a random in a pick up squad b/c I wanted to know if I could get a few extra % on my Swarms. Well, guess it was fixed then, Best thing you could probably do is test it with kinetic cats. Take two players, one with both Aur and isk Kincats, one with two isk kincats of the same tier. one without and see which one is faster, or rather if one of them gains on the other. Same level of KC, biotics would need to be same.

Or you could use the SDE to check the tags on the equipment and see what the tag for stacking penalty is. That would require work instead of random theory posting that you heard from someone. FFS, does no one think critically anymore? Lol, It's pretty damn hard when You haven't been on in a while xP
And Lol, I forgot xD
